Yoo Hoo and hello again, everyone!
Ah, it's great to be back from vacation! Let's see, have I taken care of everything since I got back? Luggage unpacked and laundry done? Check. Mail delivery? Check. Newspaper? Check. Theme parks post? Uh oh. Sorry about that, folks.
Nothing new about the parks on TV this time out, folks, but as usual the Travel Channel is coming through with some old favorites; have your favorite recording devices ready if you live on the West Coast, folks, because they'll be showing three pretty good shows while you're at work on August 8th. Here's what's coming up. (As always, all times are PDT.)
A. Shows About Disney Theme Parks and Resorts
Monday, July 28, 9:30 a.m., Travel Channel:
"Great Hotels - "Disney's Grand Floridian"
Host Samantha Brown shows us around the premier hotel of the Walt Disney World resort and has some fun at the Magic Kingdom.
Thursday, July 31, 9:30 a.m., Travel Channel:
Great Hotels - "Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge"
Host Samantha Brown takes us on a tour of Walt Disney World's deluxe African-themed resort, including a special early-morning safari at Disney's Animal Kingdom.
Friday, August 8, 1:00 p.m., Travel Channel:
"Inside Disneyland Paris"
A look behind the scenes at the rides, shows and characters of Disney's first European theme park, including a look at headliner attractions such as "Space Mountain," "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience" and "Indiana Jones and the Temple
Friday, August 8, 2:00 p.m., Travel Channel:
Learn about the process behind the creation of attractions for the Disney theme parks, from initial concept to design to construction and testing, and explore WDW's most popular attractions, such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Splash Mountain, and the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.
Friday, August 8, 3:00 p.m., Travel Channel:
"Disney's Animal Kingdom"
A visit behind the scenes of Walt Disney World's fourth and newest theme park. Learn about the challenges of combining thrill rides and live animals; also have a look at the secrets behind "Dinosaur!", featuring Disney's largest Audio-Animatronic figures.
B. Shows With Segments About Disney Theme Parks
Wednesday, July 30, 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., and Thursday, July 31, 2:00 a.m., 5:00a.m., 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., Discovery Home & Living Channel:
The history of the amusement park fun house, from the 1901 ride "A Trip To The Moon" to today's multimedia spectaculars such as "Terminator 2: 3D." Includes a segment on Disneyland's movie-inspired dark rides.
C. Programs Taking Place At Disney Theme Parks and Resorts
Friday, August 1, 3:00 p.m., ESPN2:
"Jeff Burton's Celebrity Fishing Challenge"
Top anglers team up with NASCAR drivers for a bass catching contest from Lake Buena Vista. (Poster's note: The information I was able to collect on this was pretty limited - I can't guarantee you'll see much of WDW, but since Lake Buena Vista is where WDW is located, and ESPN2 is owned by Disney, you never know... )
D. Bonus: Shows Featuring Segments on Extraordinary Disney Fans
Tuesday, August 5, 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.; Thursday, August 7, 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.; and Friday, August 8, 1:30 p.m., VH1:
"Set in Skin"
A look at tattoos and the people who wear them hosted by Dave Navarro and Carmen Electra features a segment on the Disney Tattoo Guy, who has more than 1500 Disney-related tattoos. (If you've never seen him, trust me, he's worth checking out...)
That's all I have for this time out, folks! Take care, everyone, and I'll talk to you again soon.
