Yoo Hoo, Disney EchoEars!

What are the links between Indiana Jones and Disney? Well, right away you'll think of the Disneyland "Indiana Jones Adventure" attraction where you dare not look into the eyes of the angry deity Mara!

The Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland where you climb aboard jungle transports for an unforgettable adventure across a rickety bridge, pools of flaming lava and a huge tumbling boulder!

Or maybe you think of the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular where Indiana Jones saves the day at Walt Disney World's Disney-MGM Studios...

A fiery explosion is the captivating conclusion to the action-packed adventure at D-MGM's Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular where nearly 20 stunt players demonstrate the split-second timing necessary to bring stunt work to life.

You might even remember hearing about the Indiana Jones attraction at Disneyland Paris: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril...

What happened to the first expedition of archaeologists and where did they disappear to? It's up to you to find out at Disneyland Paris, as you're propelled towards the ancient ruins of the Temple of Peril, backwards!

Nope! That's not the connection I'm going to tell you about. There's a direct connection between the Indiana Jones movies and Disneyland that came before any Indiana Jones attractions were at those Disney theme parks. And I don't mean the Star Wars/Star Tours connection where George Lucas teamed up with Disney. Here's another link that I just learned about and I'm happy to pass along to all the Disney EchoEars:

In The Adventures of Indiana Jones (Raiders of the Lost Ark/The Temple of Doom/The Last Crusade) DVD which went on sale today, I was surprised to learn that the film crew was given special access to all the rides at Disneyland late at night after the park closed to Guests. They rode each of the Disneyland rollercoasters under special conditions where the normal attraction soundtracks were turned off. Why did they want to ride the coasters that way? They were recording each ride with special equipment that picked up each metal-on-metal squeal of furiously-rolling wheels straining around curves of the track, the sounds of the cars building momentum and careening up, down and around all the coaster tracks at Disneyland.

With augmentation, these sounds became the basis of what you'll hear in the wild, rollercoaster-like mine car chase in "Raiders of the Lost Ark." You've got to hear this on the DVD! The secret is revealed on disc 4 of the new DVD Indiana Jones set.

And ever wonder about how they created the sound of that gigantic round boulder roller faster and faster after Indy (recreated in D-MGM's Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular)? The DVD lets you in on the secret: It was the sound of a Honda Civic rolling down a gravel road with the engine turned off!
:wwww:

I highly recommend getting this DVD collection, and if you order it from Amazon.com through this link, you'll be helping out the Disney Echo.

Cool!  Thanks for the info, Rich!

I can't wait to get my hands on these DVD's.  I am a big Indy fan.

Now, I do have one complaint.  How could you leave out the scene from "Raiders of the Lost Ark" in the Great Movie Ride????  :o   :wink2:

"Here, in "Raiders of the Lost Ark," amid a thousand deadly snakes, Indiana Jones unearths a great treasure. Will Harrison Ford escape with his discovery? And what will be your fate? Beware."  :9

Speaking of which--next time you are on it...keep an eye out for some hidden hieroglyphics in the "Raiders" scene.  There is a C-3P0 and R2-D2 hieroglyphic (I think to the left) and then, as you leave that scene, look up and you will see Donald and Mickey in a hieroglyphic.

D'oh! I shoulda mentioned that one, too! I guess my brain thought I had everything covered since I did mention the other obvious Indiana Jones reference in the D-MGM Studios. Maybe it is because the stunt men who portray Indy at the stunt spectacular do a much more believable job of portraying him than the CM's at Great Movie Ride (at least in my opinion), perhaps that's why I forgot it.

Frankly, I've always been paying more attention in that Great Movie Ride scene to trying to find that Hidden Mickey, Donald, R2D2 and C3PO things, but I've yet to spot them. Isn't the Mickey & Donald one in a position that only CMs can see it, anyhow?

Well, you know I HAD to bring it up since that was my very first job with the Mouse and all...   LOL

Mickey and Donald can be seen by anyone.  :)

I think I got the location mixed up though in my last post.  Mickey and Donald can be seen if you look to the left as you are leaving the "Raiders" scene.  I forget where 3PO and R2 are, but I think they are also on the left.  I remember they told us in training that there is also an R2D2 and C-3PO hieroglyphic in the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark, so that's why they put them in the ride.

Happy hunting!!!
