It is? I never knew that! I'll have to plan a trip out there someday to see if they do anything on it.  :wink2:

I'm hoping Disney plans for Disneyland's 50th! From the rumors I've read so far, they're not going to be putting enough money/time/planning into making it as important a celebration as it really is.

From the Disneyland Line CM newletter about the July 17, 2003 celebration:

“A ceremony will be held July 17 at 7:45 a.m. on Main Street, U.S.A.

Cast Members and Guests are invited to join Groove 66 and Disneyland Resort Ambassador Daina Baker in a 'Happy Birthday, Disneyland' singalong followed by rope drop at 8 a.m.”

If you'd like to celebrate this where you are, that's
  • 10:45 am EDT
  • 9:45 am CDT
  • 8:45 am CDT
All other places in the world, you're on your own about what time that translates to... Sorry UK EchoEars!

Yoo Hoo, Disney EchoEars!

Happy birthday, Disneyland!

When I think of Walt's original theme park, I remember the night of Saturday, September 26, 1992, when I was at Walt Disney World on the last night of the 1st Official Disneyana Convention. The occasion was the closing banquet of the convention and all of us Disneyana ConventionEars were in the Fantasia Ballroom of Disney's Contemporary Resort Convention Center.

One part of that night's entertainment will always have a special place in my memory. The Disney folks showed us a sweet and touching film which had stills and footage from Walt's life and work, accompanied by the wonderful song many of you might have heard which is an ode to Walt Disney. Dick Nunis said this is the "Company Song," played only at internal Company gatherings and stockholders' meetings, until that evening. Nunis told us the conference was so successful that he considered Disney enthusiasts and collectors in attendance part of the Disney family, and so having a performance of this song for us would be appropriate. Since then they also presented it for the ConventionEars at the 1994 Official Disneyana Conventions and it was later performed by Paul Williams on the Mouseketeers Reunion TV show (which used to be seen in reruns occasionally on the Disney Channel). However, Paul didn't sing all of the lyrics that Dick Nunis sang for us in September 1994.

Dick said it was written by an unknown Cast Member and they wished they knew who that was so they could give him or her credit for it. It is sung like an anthem/ballad, slow affectionate tempo and tone. Get the hankies out, because I'm going to share the lyrics of the song with you now.

Update: I've now uploaded a video of this song as well as an mp3! Check it out here

Late one rainy night
down in Missouri
huddled in his tiny room
an artist drew impressions
by glowing candlelight
of a friendly little creature
who had come to share his night.

How was he to know the destiny
guided by his moving hand?
He created someone
who'd be loved across the land.
The first of many faces
that his gifted hand would draw.

Mickey Mouse,
Donald Duck,
Goofy and the gang.
Your father was a friend of mine
though he never knew my name.

He painted colored fairy tales
with a stroke of his magic brush
and brought to life the characters
we've grown to love so much.

He made it all so beautiful
in the world of Disneyland.
Mickey Mouse, (Mickey Mouse)
Donald Duck, (Donald Duck)
You've made a lot of friends.

Heaven must have come his way one night
and filled his mind with magic dreams.
He built a land of paradise
with so much love and care
and left it all behind him
for everyone to share.

Mickey Mouse,
Donald Duck,
Goofy and the gang.
Your father was a friend of mine
though he never knew my name.

He painted colored fairy tales
with a stroke of his magic brush
and brought to life the characters
we've grown to love so much.

He made it all so beautiful
in the world of Disneyland.
Mickey Mouse, (Mickey Mouse)
Donald Duck, (Donald Duck)
You've made a lot of friends,
A lot of friends.

Y'all using your hankies now?
;)  :sniffle:

Happy birthday, Disneyland.

And thanks, Walt.
:)

Yoo Hoo, Disney EchoEars!

Al Lutz on miceage.com has the first details of what the 50th anniversary celebration of Disneyland might have in store for us.

In fact, he's heard it will be called "Disney's Golden Celebration" (Note: not Disneyland's Golden Celebration) and will have a big kick-off at Walt's original park in Anaheim, California as well as simultaneous fireworks going off in that park along with Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland Paris in France -- all presented on giant Jumbotron screens.

It sounds to be a worldwide celebration of the entire theme park industry that The Walt Disney Co. started 50 years ago at Walt's little park carved out of an Anaheim orange grove.
