IMHO/YMMV :)

The DVD ROCKS!!!!    As Chip said towards the end of the animated "Beauty and the Beast":  "You folks gotta try this!"

My only critique so far:  Someone please give Johnny Depp some coffee for his audio commentary, IMHO he sounds like he's on the brink of falling asleep.

Otherwise:  If you get it for yourself as a treat for now or for someone for year-end holiday gift giving, it's a good DVD!

Price on premiere day at Wal-Mart: $15.87

Anyone else buy this, or rent it?  Are you waiting 'til the holidays to open it, or are you watching it now?  What do you think?  Is the movie, etc., only so-so, sucks, terrific, or somewhere in between?  Are you buying or renting it for yourself, or as gifts for others?  Opinions?  Reactions?  Thoughts?  Post here!

Anyone else noticing this (possible spoilers):

On the "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" DVD there is a DVD-ROM element where you can plop either of the DVDs into your computer and do some stuff.  One of the things you can do is experience the Disneyland attraction "Pirates of the Caribbean" with 360-degree views. OK.  There are hot spots you can click and highlight and some of these actually seem to advance you in the ride.

So I went through all of this and am lovin' it so far.

But when I want to advance in the ride, and when I click the outer frame to do so, nothing happens at the top of the frame.  So, if I start the experience at 6 pm on the bottom of the frame, and move counter-clockwise towards Noon, clicking on images and advancing in the ride, and then I get to Noon and click that image and nothing happens.  Then I advance clounter-clockwise to the upper left corner, click that, and it refers me back to the opening of the ride.  When I start at 6 pm and move clockwise I get the same progression.  Not all the ride is there.

In short it seems that only part of the attraction at Disneyland
is on the DVD-ROM, up to the ship attacking the fort.  After that the DVD-ROM keeps referring you back to the beginning.

Is that all anyone else has on their DVD-ROM?  Is that all that's meant to be there?  Or did the programmers forget to include more?

Simply curious and wanting to network around for answers,
thanks in advance.

From WWW site DVD Easter Eggs.com here are some Easter eggs on the "Pirates" DVD as of 12/8/03 for the US version of the DVD, quoting selectively:

3 Eggs
Submitted on 12/2/2003 by Matt Grammatico
Disc 2 Main Menu

1. Select 'Fly on the Set': Highlight 'Play All' and press right twice to highlight the skeleton's tooth. Press enter to watch "Pirates Cave Construction".

2. Select 'Below Deck': Highlight 'Set Sail' and press left twice to highlight the skull. Press enter to watch a computer animation of the chase scene without voices.

3. Select "Moonlight Serenade" Scene Progression: Highlight 'Main Menu' and press down twice to highlight another skeleton's tooth. Press enter to watch a Keith Richards interview.

One more!

Go to "Bellow Dec menu"
to the second page of the scene index,(the one with the skeleton hand.

-highlight "pirate ships" and press left once, the ring in the skeleton hand will be highlighted, its the JAPANESE TRAILER!! which is neat.

These work on the Region 2 version as well.

End of quoted material.

On WWW site Ultimate Disney.com someone in their discussion forum mentions in USA Today there is a printed interview with Orlando Bloom who is on tour promoting "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King" opening next week.  Anyway, a brief phrase in that interview mentions Orlando Bloom will start shooting the "Pirates" sequel in January 2005.  Yes, that's 200_5_, as I post this more than a year away.  The post was dated 12/6/03, so it may have been a USA Today from the week of December 1-5, 2003.  But the point here is that a date for the start of filming of the "Pirates" sequels (earlier press release stated sequels 1 and 2 would be shot back-to-back) seems to be a known thing now.  They were shooting the original "Pirates" in late 2002 and into the spring of 2003, means the start of filming of the sequels will be between 2-3 years later, the actors will have matured in their looks in that time, but it also gives the writers a chance to take their time and do what we all hope will be a great job on the screenplay and storyboards.

Slight update:  Ultimate Disney.com folks think "Pirates II" if this is in fact the shooting schedule would maybe be released as a Summer 2006 movie, maybe in July 2006 like "Pirates I" was.  No one knows for sure, however, so basically the main tidbit here is that Orlando Bloom interview snippet from USA Today last week.
