Yoo Hoo, Disney EchoEars!

Carol and I just heard what will be part of the plot of the sequel to Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. On the PoC DVD during the audio commentary with screenwriters Ted Elliot, Terry Rossio, Stuart Beattie and Jay Wolpert, the conversation turns to whether or not Jack's ship, the Black Pearl, is cursed itself or possesses supernatural powers.

They point out that wherever the ship goes, it is surrounded by fog. And even though its oars add to its fast speed, it has otherworldly powers that might be aiding it as well.

Then they give a big clue as to what part of the PoC sequel's story will contain: They mention that even though the Black Pearl does indeed have supernatural powers in the first episode of the movie, it doesn't add to or take away anything from this first movie's plot. However, they reveal that the ship's mystical powers will have a prominent position in the plot of the PoC sequel.

You will always remember this as the day that you heard a bit about the PoC II plot on The ... Disney ... Echo!

In that same commentary cut on the PoC DVD, they mention during the closing credits that although the Black Pearl has supernatural powers (and that will be featured in the next PoC film's story), that the ship is not invincible. It could easily be blown to smithereens -- kindling wood -- by a large warship.

Hmmmmm, I wonder if that threat will also be a part of the plot!
:eyebrow:

They also once again in those closing credits mention the word "sequel" when they talk about those mystical powers that Jack's ship has.

Important to mention that what Rich picked as the title for this thread is not the title for the sequel.  The various writers for "Pirates" movie allude to what will be in the sequel regarding Capt. Jack Sparrow's ship, tantalizing, but no other details than simply that.

Ah, but how do you know it won't be? Perhaps I'm savvy...

On WWW site Ultimate Disney.com someone in their discussion forum mentions in USA Today there is a printed interview with Orlando Bloom who is on tour promoting "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King" opening next week.  Anyway, a brief phrase in that interview mentions Orlando Bloom will start shooting the "Pirates" sequel in January 2005.  Yes, that's 200_5_, as I post this more than a year away.  The post was dated 12/6/03, so it may have been a USA Today from the week of December 1-5, 2003.  But the point here is that a date for the start of filming of the "Pirates" sequels (earlier press release stated sequels 1 and 2 would be shot back-to-back) seems to be a known thing now.  They were shooting the original "Pirates" in late 2002 and into the spring of 2003, means the start of filming of the sequels will be between 2-3 years later, the actors will have matured in their looks in that time, but it also gives the writers a chance to take their time and do what we all hope will be a great job on the screenplay and storyboards.

Slight update:  Ultimate Disney.com folks think "Pirates II" if this is in fact the shooting schedule would maybe be released as a Summer 2006 movie, maybe in July 2006 like "Pirates I" was.  No one knows for sure, however, so basically the main tidbit here is that Orlando Bloom interview snippet from USA Today last week.
