Yoo Hoo, Carol!

Imagine buying a movie ticket so you can watch the trailers before a movie, then leaving!

I know it wasn't a trailer but a cartoon shown before the feature, but remember the two movies we saw just so we'd see Mickey Mouse in "Runaway Brain"? One was "George of the Jungle" I think and I've already forgotten the other feature the cartoon was shown in front of. One of the remakes of "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" (original book by Mark Twain) as I recall, but not with that title.

Anyway, you and I went to those two features just to see "Runaway Brain" and we were very tempted to leave before the feature was over!
LOL

I remember those movies.  And look how long it took Disney to finally release "Runaway Brain" to home video, sheesh!  So at the time if we wanted to see "Runaway Brain" that was the only way to do it.  "Runaway Brain" was a Disney cartoon short just before the movies Rich cited in his message, starring Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Mickey having a temporary brain transplant by an evil scientist just ahead of a vacation with Minnie, dates to about 1995-1996 or so.

Anyway, there are people in this world obsessed with one movie or movie franchise (to define the term, all 5 "Star Wars" movies are a movie franchise when there is one or more sequels) so eager to see the next installment they would in fact buy a ticket just to see the promotional trailer.  What was in this morning's entertainment section of the paper was a photo with caption promoting the next "Lord of the Rings" installment, due in theatres this December.  I bet those fans site there, cel phones and instant messaging at the ready to telephone or telegraph their pals whether it's awesome or not.  Luckily we now have the Internet and the technology to not have to fight traffic and drive and park and pay $ at a theatre for the sake of seeing coming attractions trailers.  I honestly appreciate whoever it is that gathers these things and posts them on movie WWW sites so we can see them from the comfort of home, or school, or work, or Internet cafes, or public libraries.

"Don't let no dark spirits in here, let me leave before you let the dark spirits come out!"  That's a good one-liner, and then Eddie Murphy kinda admires Madame Leota on the table and later has her and her crystal ball-head seat belted for safety into the front seat of an SUV.  That is cute schtick!

So, about "Haunted Mansion" movie, the trailers, the movie official WWW site:  What does anyone like best about the trailers?  Least?  What elements similar to the Disney theme park attractions do you see so far in what little about the movie we can look at?  Do you think Eddie Murphy is up to the challenge to do a great Disney-esque job in the movie?  Do you think it will, or can, live up to "Pirates of the Caribbean"-sort of expectations, or will it be so-so, or flunk out?   Do your kids know about the movie yet, are they old enough and mature enough to see it, do they want to see it?  How will "Haunted Mansion" fare against other holiday season movie fare?  What dialogue lines or scenes in the trailers so far strike you as funny, clever, or very Disney-ride reminiscent, and which fall flat or give you doubts about whether the movie will be any good?  Is Disney promoting the movie in an effective way, could they do more or better than what they have been doing, do you think?  Is this a movie mainly for Disney fans or will enough of a general audience be attracted to it for it to be successful at the box office?

Cyndi Lauper! :Oo:

Haha, just kidding. Seriously though, Carol is there any word on who's playing Leota?

Yoo Hoo, Disney EchoEars!

Two things: First, the Haunted Mansion movie is rated PG, not PG-13 as some had posted earlier. I've added an update to the messages above which had PG-13 as the rating.

The PG (Parental Guidance) rating the movie gets is for "frightening images, thematic elements, and language."

The second thing is that the official Haunted Mansion movie website has details about an exhibit about the movie touring malls all across the country:

The Haunted Mansion 3D Mall Tour is scaring it's way through America! Check the dates below to find out when it will be in your area!!
  • Oct 24 - Oct 26 Atlanta, Georgia Cumberland Mall
  • Oct 31 - Nov 1 New York, New York Grand Central
  • Nov 8 - Nov 9 Detroit, Michigan Oakland Mall
  • Nov 14 - Nov 16 Chicago, Illinois Northbrook Mall
  • Nov 26 - Nov 30 Los Angeles, California Westerfield Shoppingtown, Santa Ana
  • Dec 5 - Dec 7 Phoenix, Arizona Arrowhead Towne Center
  • Dec 12 - Dec 14 Dallas, Texas Parks at Arlington
  • Dec 19 - Dec 21 Houston, Texas TBD

   It figures!  Nothing this cool ever comes to Central Virginia!  I love this attraction, and will go see the movie (even if Jennifer Tilly is in it!  Don't know what it is about her that grates me so)     :hmm:
Anyway, POTC   surprised me too... I still want to see it again.  A friend of mine went 5 times in one week, and she found out their is a pirate in her family tree...      :pirate:   Oh, well, hopefully this will be a good movie... Disney has a lot riding on it.... Also, the \tot movie was just for TV... I think it would make a good regular movie.... Oh... did I mention it was my favorite ride!   :wink2:

Well, spell checking is one of the free, built-in benefits of being a Disney EchoEar! Before you click the button to save your message or save your reply, click on the "Spell check post" button. In the new window that pops up, make any suggested changes you want, then you'll be able to cut and paste the corrected text back into your message entry box here on the Disney Echo.

Plus, you can always go back and edit your messages here on the Disney Echo, too!

Yoo Hoo, Disney EchoEars!

Carol has had more of a chance than I've had to check out The Haunted Mansion movie website. She has this to report:

"You can send E-cards from the site. And you can explore inside the Mansion.

When you log on the home page shows a different room each time. You have to completely leave the site and re-enter the homepage as a new arrival to see it."

Thanks, Rich, and I had hit the send button after I "proofread it!"  Of course, I proofread without my glasses on because I can't read the screen with my bifocals on!  LOL  I see computer glasses in my future....
