I have to agree with everyone that this is a unique family that we belong to here! I first started my Disney craze with the passporter boards where I found Tikiman's site where I found this board.  I was very hesitant in posting at first.  I now have the hang of it and am not very shy :blush2: about posting either.  This is the first site that I open when I log onto my computer.  I love to see what new questions we all come up with and the quick responses that are given.   :o

I want to thank all of you who have made my first trip to Disney something to look forward to and not fret taking two babies there.

Tikiman!! You leave on the 18th for vaction? Am I right in saying you will be at the Poly? If so maybe we will meet. I am leaveing on the 20th and will be staying at the poly for the first time. From 8/21 to 8/24.

Yoo Hoo, Marcie!

You'll have to meet up with Steve another time, because he's going to vacation at the original "Polynesian Resort" . . . Hawaii!

I'd like to add my thanks as well - both to Rich and the Echo and to Steve. I posted a question here (about Concierge meals) that I know would have been cause for much angry debate at that other board - here, though, people gave friendly helpful opinions. [If you think DIS can be cranky, then stay away from RADP :punched: - it can get really rough].

Oh, Steve, you missed one thing in your 'blue sky' example - a value guest would complain that the sky is 'bluer' for deluxe guests, and a deluxe guest would complain that too many value guests are looking at 'their' sky! :laughbig:

Yoo Hoo, DrTomorrow!

Thanks for the kind words! Loved your "blue sky" addition.

Here's mine:

I have pretty much decided that if I have a question I am going to post it here.  Everyone here is so nice!  I really like how everyone says things in such a positive manner even if it may not be the most popular opinion.

As of lately, I think that the whole posting about the sky would be so true on other boards - especially about the concierge guests and about the deluxe guests being made about the budget guests looking at their sky.  It seems like so on the other board every question seems to take on this direction lately.  I am always surprised that people who are suppose to love WDW and are talking about the happiest place on earth  - they are just so crabby.  It makes me really feel afraid to ask questions there.

Rich - you should be proud of the tone of this board.  I don't think you have anything to worry about in regards to it changing because I don't think people here would stand for negatives posts.  That is just not how things are here.  I love to come here to read what people are asking and replying.  Keep up the great work!

Tikiman - have an awesome vacation!  You deserve a break from helping all of us who need so much help!

THANKS for the happy place you have provided all of us!
Jen

Yoo Hoo, Disney EchoEars!

With the 14th year of the Disney Echo starting on August 4th, I've moved this topic here to the "Shake Hands" area out of the Polynesian Resort message forum, so that more Disney EchoEars will have a change to see it.

I have to agree.  I am still relatively new to this board, well any board really.  This is the first one that I was on that didn't seem frightening to post on.  I know I get a little wordy sometimes and off on tangents so I'll keep it brief.

this is a great site, like a family.  No, this place I think gets along a little nicer than my family!

Thanks to all for "listening" to my banter!

I agree 100% with you, Tikiman. And everyone else on here.

I don't want to mention specifics, but I spent some time looking around on other Disney boards recently to see if they were as nice as this one. While there are a couple of nice ones out there I found ones that were incredibly rude. And wow, do I mean rude! Lots of bickering and fighting over the dumbest things. I even saw at least two of them that were actually snooty!  :unhappy:  I thought it was all so ridiculous and stupid, it made me wonder how people saying they were Disney nuts could be that way. I had always assumed that folks into Disney would have really sweet and caring natures. Wow was I ever wrong.
:Oo:

When I first joined this board friends kept warning me to be extra careful because they said the internet can be so dangerous. They knew the last time I've ever used a modem was back during the 80s calling BBS systems, and they kept telling me, "Be careful! The internet isn't like those tiny little boards you used to call that are run on some kid's or school's computer where everyone's local and knows each other." They say I'm too trusting and didn't want me to get hurt.

When I came here I kept my posting to a minimum and talked to Rich in email a while because I thought, "The Moderator seems really nice. Maybe I should write to him privately first to ease myself up. And it's a good way to see how nice the board really is because if I can't trust a board's owner then who can I trust on it?" After a while Rich sorta "nudged" me over to posting on here instead because he knew why I felt scared about it and he was trying to show me it was alright. I was terrified and made just tiny little comments. But as time as gone by I've been feeling better and better about jumping in and saying more and more. I guess my eagerness to make friends with everybody on here is finally winning out. :blush2:

I never would have posted a message like this one when I first joined. In fact this is easily the longest one I've ever written!

Rich you've really done a great job on the board and you've also personally helped me a lot in posting and courage on here. I feel I really trust all of you and I enjoy coming here whenever I can. And I'm sure anyone else who comes here will feel the same way. Disney Echo is a real blessing.

Since us newbies are supposed to post an official-type "Yoo Hoo" message (geez...they still say that! LOL ), I'll do so.

If I see my name around here much more, I probably won't be able to fit through the door with a swelled head!  So let me tell you the REAL truth.  In 1990, around the time of the birth of our second daughter, I needed an outlet.  Bethany, while absolutely wonderful, was much different than her older sister.  Amy slept through the night from her date of birth.  Bethany slept through the night for the first time when she was three!  So Daddy usually got the night shift, and needed something to do while holding this very upset little girl  .

That outlet turned into a BBS (for you youngsters who don't remember the days before the Internet, Bulletin Board Systems were what you dialed into to connect with others). Since I was a died-in-the-wool Disney-fanatic, I named it "The Ink And Paint Club".  It was all text, running the WWIV system.  As soon as I could, I hooked up to the WWIVNet system (whereby each BBS would hook up to another BBS, exchange messages up and down the line).  Since there wasn't one, I had to create a Disney topic group.

WWIVNet was nice, but I kept hearing about other networks that were busier.  I tried a few of them, either through my BBS or another.  Finally, a friend told me about FidoNet, the biggest one of 'em all.  I joined up, even though it cost a maintenance fee every month (and we didn't have it! I was between jobs, but this was more important than anything else).  Once again, I was able to create a Disney subtopic, which a bunch of others joined.

I noticed that another Disney sub started right around the same time as mine, but mine hit the national list first, so it got more traffic.  A bunch of people from the other sub came over to mine, including a husband and wife from Louisiana.  If I was a fanatic, I don't think there was a word to describe them! I could see that they were special, and I asked them to be my assistant moderators, and handle things for me (like discipline in posting, and the like).

And the rest, as they say, is history.  Eventually, I got a real job in the real world, and had less and less time to spend on the Disney sub.  Rich and Carol graciously took over more and more of the daily responsibilities, and never once complained about doing all the work with none of the credit on the National list.  One night, while chatting with them, I dropped the bomb on them...I was shutting down my BBS, and focusing on my job and my growing family.  I tried to hang around, and be their assistant, but there just wasn't enough time in the day.  So I said "see ya real soon" to all my friends, and slipped off stage quietly.

Since then, I've heard occasionally from Rich, but I haven't really been active online in the Disney community.  With a large family (six children, three horses, five cats, and a number of Pug dogs...my wife raises and shows them), a great job (Director of Sales & Marketing at the Choo Choo Barn in Strasburg, Lancaster County, PA), and a full life, I kinda forgot about the "good old days".

Now, I own Disney stock (left to me by my parents), I visit Disney World as often as humanly (and financially) possible, and this email dropped out of the blue from that guy in Louisiana about an anniversary of the old FidoNet group, and would I mind stopping in, and seeing what he's got going...

I said it in an email earlier, but I'll say it here publically...Rich, you have created a truly amazing system here!  It's gone exponentially beyond anything I ever imagined!! You deserve all the credit on the 13th anniversary of the Disney Echo, and I'm thrilled to see what you've done.

My hat (complete with the requisite ears) is off to you and Carol!  Congratulations, and many MANY more!

-Chris
