Does anyone ever stay at FW full time? Like work there and live at the campground? Is it even allowed? I mean, people have such great motorhomes that I think it's do-able. Any thoughts????

Well, not actually full time - but most winters Disney does offer a "Winter Settlers Discount" for stays of 21 days or longer.

I threw out this idea to my wife a while back.  She wasn't too enthusiastic about the idea.  I'd still like to do it, though! :coonskin:

Yoo Hoo, ang38!

What a great idea! I've never heard of anybody doing that -- the people who live in WDW's Reedy Creek Improvement District live in (double-wide) trailers, but not at Fort Wilderness. But add me to the list of those who would like to do it someday!

Thanks for the thought-provoking question and for joining the Disney Echo. Here's your own pair of Minnie-style Disney Echo mouse-ears for posting your first message here. Please write more, and welcome!

When we were at FW for christmas last year we stayed in a cabin(That was before we got the RV) and my husband and brother in law were talking to a CM at FW.  My husband asked that very question to the CM and he said that no one can live there full time, there's a law against it for some reason. But that during the winter they have several people who come back yearly and stay for 2, 3 or 4 months at a very discounted rate. I believe the rate for a full hook up was around $20 per day. I think it might be fun to do that.

If you think about the logistics of it, there is just no way working at FW and living there would work.  There is no way Disney will pay you enough to cover the cost of the campsite and your food, plus other living expenses.  It would offset it enough maybe if you had other income to cover you, but certainly wouldn't pay itself.  Then there's the problem of living where you work - I guess it would take all the magic out of a stay at FW.  Oh well....... :coonskin:

I think they would pay enough. How much does it really cost to stay at a campground, average 30 a night which is 900 a month, food 300, phone 60 miss. 300 , car 200. So say $2000 a month. Salary for 2 people would have to be a $1000 each which is $250 a week each. I think I can make that work :) It costs me more here a month and I'm not as happy as I would be there.I would love to give it a try!

Okay, let's crunch the numbers some more.  That would mean both my wife and I would have to work at FW - that's doable.  250 net a week on a 40 hour week is about 6.50 an hour net so lets say 8.50 an hour gross.  Do you think the mouse would pay me that much?  If so, sign me up!

sounds do -able doesn't it? I figure, if you're living out of your trailer and the water and electricity is paid for, there really isn't much else. Now to talk Disney into letting people actually do it. I wonder if you stay under one name for so long and then change sites and names if it would work? My husbands ready to go. If it only was that easy!!!! :eyebrow:

Well, if you're basing this on two of you at the campsite, you could alternate who makes the reservation...
