:hula: Well- we survived the drive to and from the World.  I'll post more as time allows, I'm on my 3rd load of laundry already this AM  :hurt: Thank goodness I decided to take off tomorrow also, I need the extra day to recover and get things in order here at home.

Cast:

Myself (Kathy) 37 (for one more day anyhow LOL)
Dh                 52
Ds                  6

A little background first:

This was our 2nd family trip to the Mouse's House as Ds calls it.  Our first trip was Dec. 2001 and we stayed at the Caribbean Beach Resort and absolutely loved it.  When I originally started planning this years trip, I made ressies for the CBR once again for this December.  I use a wonderful AAA agent (Gail) when I do my planning, and when she called me this past spring and informed me of the Fairytale Package, I opted for the Polynesian in October - and I'm so glad we did.We had a lot of firsts this trip, and I'll go into more detail as my trip report unfolds.Alot of good, a little not-so-good (whiny Ds and a grumpy Dh) and even some pixie dust that only WDW can do.

I will say that our stay at the Poly was wonderful - and we look forward to staying there again in the near future (Dec. 2004)   I don't think I'll ever stay concierge, we were very content with our GV room in Aotearoa 1213.

Tikiman - I now know why you love the Poly so much.  It would be hard to stay anywhere else now.

10/17 Jacksonville or bust!!

We pulled out of our driveway at 6:45AM, 45 min. later than planned, but at least we were on our way.  The drive to Jacksonville was pretty uneventful, the usual construction delays on 95 and a few stops for gas and bathroom breaks.  I will say that the VCP/DVD combo we bought prior to the trip was a lifesaver.

Our last trip down, we spent the night at a Hampton Inn near the exit for JAX (?) and knew that was our goal once again. Actually, Dh decided we would stay here again as it also was the only place we found a Dunkin Donut between Salisbury and Jacksonville. We checked in around 8:45PM, not bad time considering the construction delays. To Dh's horror, the Dunkin Donut closed at 7PM, he would have to settle for the Folgers Coffee Singles I had packed. We were ready for a restful nights sleep, and would be at the Mouse's House by 11AM, or that was the plan.

*** side note*** we probably could have made better time if Dh drove like a madman as he did last trip.  I made him rethink his driving style when I told him that if he drove like that again and the police stopped him - we would pick him up on the way home!

10/18 Poly here we come

7:30 AM ate breakfast at the hotel, they had a nice breakfast bar set up.  Assorted fruits, cereals, bagels, biscuits with sausage/egg.  Loaded up the car and on the road by 8:45AM.  Last time it took us 2 1/2 hrs to get to Orlando, we hoped it would be the same this time.    Due to more road construction and a motorcycle accident, it appears they wiped out on the soft shoulder trying to go around a backup due to construction, we finally pulled up to the Poly at 12:10PM.

Let me say that the place was hopping! :o We were told to pull up under the carport area for luggage unloading and check-in.  We couldn't even get near it.  There were 2 lanes of cars, vans etc, and we were about 6 cars back.  We would have waited forever.  After sitting for 15 minutes and not moving an inch, we decided to self park, check-in and then get our luggage later when things were quieter.

To make an already long story short, checked in and was assigned Aotearoa GV 1213.  Went to the room, found it very clean, roomy, and the view off the patio was very nice.  We could see the monorail but had a nice buffer of vegetation. Decided we could use a fridge, called Maintenance and they delivered one within 15 minutes. We ended up schlepping our own luggage, as Bell Services was overwhelmed and we wanted to get to MK as quickly as possible.  MK was open til 11PM tonite and it wouldn't seem right if I didn't walk down Main Street USA our first day there.

First impression of the Poly- so far so good, a little hectic but I think a combination of people checking out late and checking in early.  No problem, as I knew this would be home for the next 8 days.  :pixiedust:  :hearts:

Hi Kathy,

So far so good.  I can't wait to read the rest of your trip report.  Since my family was down there at the same time as yours I'm curious to read how your experiences were.  If you want to check out my trip report I've posted it over in the Poly section of the forum.

10/18 Part II
Decided to unpack the bags later and get on to the good stuff. We checked out the Volcano Pool, and the GCH top to bottom.  Scoped out the gift shops and stopped by Capt. Cook's to pick up our refillable mugs.  ::Side note:: Capt.Cook's was surprisingly small to me. We used it a few times for meals (1 breakfast & and a couple late lunches)while there, but mostly avoided it due to the crowds/lines being awful. I know that there are 2 restaurants on premises, but when you want to grab something quick, I wish they had a larger snack bar/ and staff to man it.

We knew that we would be at MK the next night (Sunday) for the MNNSHP, but decided that we had to at least see Main Street USA before we laid our heads down to rest tonite.  So, we hopped on the monorail and MK here we come!!!!
:hearts: Do you love the monorail access or what??? :hearts:

MK was open til 11PM that night, only planned on staying a few hrs.  I wanted to be back at the Poly in time for Ty & Dh to see their first Electric Water Pageant at 9PM.

Now remember that our last trip was Dec. 2001- small crowds due to the time of year and also being a few months after 9/11 reduced the crowds even more that year.  October is busier, but still manageable.  Most FP's were already gone for the day, we did grab one for Buzz as it was the only thing Ds wanted to ride.  While waiting for our FP time, we grabbed burgers at Cosmic Ray's, rode the Tea Cups, Dumbo, and also got to do the Transit Authority ride (family's first) it's actually a nice little ride. Ty wanted to do the Speedway with Dh, but the wait was over 45 minutes. Rode Peter Pan, Small World (no wait for that one) Ty and I rode without Dh, he said that once in his lifetime was more than enough :o Checked out the Emporium, I could spend a day just in this store. Crowds were getting heavier so we decide to call it a night and head out. I think we got a pretty good start on our tour of the World.

Headed back to the Poly around 7:30PM, with 2 of Snow White's *other dwarves Whiny(Ds) and Grouchy(Dh). Took the boat launch back, very nice ride across the lake, the GF & Poly are so pretty lit up at night. Did some unpacking back at the room.  Then about 8:30PM we headed down to the marina to watch Wishes for the first time, it was so beautiful. Then we walked out on the pier, grabbed a bench and watched the EWP- the perfect ending to our 1st day.
:pixiedust: I'm smiling just remembering :pixiedust:

10/19

Kona Cafe or "Are you going to eat all of that?'

Decided that since we were going to be at MK tonite for MNSSHP, we would move a little slower today and save some energy for later.  MGM was the park of choice today, and we headed for GCH for breakfast before grabbing a bus to the park.  Let's just say that starting your day at the Kona Cafe can't be beat.  We didn't get the press pot of coffee, Dh doesn't care for strong coffee and the waitress (I wish I made note of her name- she was wonderful) advised that the regular Kona blend (bottomless cup) was very good- and she was right.  I can't remember what Ds(pancakes?) or Dh(omelet?) ordered, but I had to try the Tonga Toast.  Our server said it was her favorite, but to try a bite before I poured syrup over it.  I'm glad I took her advice, it was perfect (and HUGE) without syrup.  You should have seen Ds's face when she set it in front of me- 'Mom- are you eating that WHOLE thing?'  :D I managed to eat most of it.  I ate the middle out of it where all the banana was.  Everyone really enjoyed their breakfast, our bellies were full and ready to take on MGM.

MGM or "6 yr old traumatized for life"

Grabbed a bus to MGM, everyone else at the Poly must of had the same idea as it was standing room only on the bus- did I already mention how much  :hearts: I love the monorail :hearts: Our first experience with the busses this trip was not starting off well.

Entered the park, I was the only one carrying a bag this trip so Ds & Dh always went thru the no bags security line.  I could always find them waiting at a Pin cart for me, and Ds always could find a couple of pins he absolutely needed.

I do believe that Ds aquired quite a few of his autographs at MGM this time, I was impressed with the amount of celebrities he was able to meet.  He refused to have anyone sign it until he found Pluto (his ultimate Disney favorite) and Pluto also signed his book first on our last trip.  Once he aquired that autograph he was able to meet Buzz & Woody, Jessie, Donald Duck & Lilo (we never did see Stitch this trip)

Rode a few rides, BackLot Tour (Dh thought the wait was not worth it) Rock N Roller coaster (Ds made the height requirement- I think his cowlick helped) lets just say that if the pic they take on this ride wasn't so unflattering of me, I would post it so you could see the expression on his face.
:o (mine wasn't much better) After the ride he said that it wasn't scary, but he never wanted to do it again. After a frozen lemonade, all was well again..but he said 'no more things that make me go upside down'

Headed over to catch the Muppet 3D, no wait for that one, got inside and seated and they announced that the show was canceled due to technical problems.  We never did get back to see it. Grabbed a late lunch at Pizza Planet and Ty played a few games.  Before we knew it, we needed to head back to the Poly to get some rest for tonite's Halloween party.  The bus ride back was better, we at least had seats this time.

MNSSHP or "Mom, where's that guy's head?"

Grabbed a bite from Capt.Cook's and took it back to the room. Ds really wanted to try the pool our but we were running short on time and promised him that we would tomorrow.  Caught the monorail to MK and were in the park by 7PM.  The crowd really wasn't as heavy as I thought it would be. People were already staking out their spaces for the parade, we took this opportunity to do the rides as we planned on seeing the 10PM parade.  The lines were almost non-existant- had our family photo taken over by "It's a Small World" with no wait, Ty got more than enough candy and we rode Dumbo, Tea Cups, Carousel, Snow White, and Dumbo again and it was just 7:45PM- cut thru the back way behind the castle to Frontier Land and decided to stick around for the parade. The Headless Horseman is so cool! Ds couldn't get over the guy with the Pumpkin Head.  He asked a few times even after the parade "That *was just a costume right Mom?" After the parade, we got to see PhilharMagic for the first time- it is the BEST!!  At the end, Donald went thru the wall just above Ds's head, he laughed so hard at seeing Donald's feet sticking out of the wall.  Did more rides, Dumbo again (noticing a trend here?) Tea Cups also, the Pooh ride (this was the longest wait we had this night- 25 minutes) then over to Tomorrowland and BuzzLightyear - twice.  The line for the Speedway was still way too long, hopefully Ds would get to ride sometime else during the week. The MNSSHP fireworks were pretty good, but the Wishes are amazing. We made it til about 10:30PM and decided to call it a night and headed for the monorail.  The monorail was not crowded and our car only had one other family in it.  Ds had a nose bleed at this time and for all the stuff I had in my fanny pack, I didn't have a tissue or napkin   :help: the mom of the other family saw our predicament and thankfully she had some napkins in the baby's diaper bag.  We then struck up a conversation and found out they were also from Maryland and staying at the Poly for the first time also. Small World  :mickey:

Got back to the room, Ds wanted to watch the resort cartoon channel- he is now in love with "Lambert the Sheepish Lion" we watched it daily and I can probably tell you the order in which the cartoons air.  It took awhile for us to unwind, but we knew we could sleep in tomorrow as it would be an easy day at EPCOT and the Volcano pool!!!

BTW- does anyone know if & where I can find "Lambert" on video?

Next up 10/20 EPCOT - and the "Grouch & Whine" festival
           Volcano Pool here we come
