On all of the PS restaurant descriptions at disneyworld.com today, you'll see the following statement in the Additional Information:

There is a 48-hour cancellation policy and there is a $10 per person charge if Guests cancel within 48 hours or no show for the meal.

If true, a credit card will be required for EVERY PS at WDW PS restaurants.  Plus, no more just not showing up for a PS unless you are willing to pay the fee!  Ugh! :o

Let's assume at the moment that this is true...

Add this up with Disneyland Resort experimenting with not allowing anyone to eat at certain restaurants unless they have a PS, and you might see what eventually could happen at WDW and Disneyland Resort: You can't eat at some of the restaurants without a PS, and you get charged if you miss that PS within a certain time frame.
:punched:

If true, I see a huge backlash coming to this policy!

Here in New Orleans we have a food expert named Tom Fitzmorris who hosts a daily show about dining out and cooking. Carol and I wrote him today about this:

Quote
Yoo Hoo, Tom!

Is there a policy at some better restaurants in New Orleans that you are required to leave a credit card number when making a reservation and if you never show up for a reservation that you make, you get charged a fee (on your credit card) for not cancelling the reservation?

My wife reads online Disney discussion forums that include peoples' dining experiences. She recently read about someone's dinner at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen at Downtown Disney in Anaheim, CA. Briefly, the meal these people had was not what they expected and they were bitterly disappointed with the food. Other respondents agreed that their own dining experiences at this restaurant were inferior. Have you heard similar complaints about Brennan's-owned restaurants anywhere outside New Orleans? Incidentally, my wife reports a respondent to that discussion thread said the Commander's Palace in Las Vegas was superb.

Here's the reply Tom sent back to me:

Quote
Hello, Rich. . .

It is a growing policy to hold down reservations with credit cards, because if widespread abuse of the reservation system by people who make reservations but don't show up. I do it myself with the Eat Club dinners, and still I get burned by people who, like a couple last night, cost me $140 out of pocket by not showing up.

I haven't been to the out-of-town places you mention, so I can't hazard an opinion on them.

Tastefully yours,
Tom Fitzmorris

Well, guess I will be only eating at counter service!  I don't have a large limit on my only CC and it usually is taken up by my room, and my rental car when I go... so if I can't one on short notice or walk up (since I usually go alone) I guess a couple of my favorite places are not going to see me next trip... I had a feeling when they charged a CC fee for the AKL eateries after it opened, that wouldn't be long behind for the other ones... the only problem I can see with not really getting to a PS you want is maybe a delay in a ride or transportation... or if you've never been to WDW before and grossly under estimate the amount of time to get to another park or across a park even at crowded times or the park with early entry for resort guests (which as we all know can be like fighting your way out of a can of sardines! ) :hungry: Great!  I haven't eaten yet, and even the thought of sardines is making me hungry!  Could use a french pastry right now... anyone in Epcot want to ship me one fast?  The eclairs are my favorite!   :wink2:
