I did something by accident that was so embarrassing that I just blushing forever that night. It's no big thing, and now that it's over with maybe you guys will find it amusing.

I was thinking a couple of days ago about how I'd like to try to find an Apple cap. You know, a 70s type like in An Extremely Goofy Movie? I've been wanting one forever but didn't know where to look.

So on Sunday night while out I consider myself very fortunate when walking through the men's department of J.C.Penny and was passing their hat section and there on the floor right in front of me - it appeared to have fallen off its hook - was a denim apple cap for a good price! I pick it up and try it on. The clerk tells me it looks very natural on me. So I buy it and wear it out the store and also had it on when I went to the Disney Store to apply for possible holiday temp work. I was pleased I had finally found something like that and planned to put a certain Goofy pin I have in it, #63 of the music series called "Right Back Where We Started From".

Sunday I was out and about doing church and chores and such, and then thought I'd check to see if I still had my receipt in my pocket. Turns out I do. I pull it out......and it had turned out I had accidentally bought a woman's cap! :blush2: :blush2: :blush2:

I had had no idea, I couldn't tell the difference but then it was pointed out to me that a metal decoration clearly visible on its side identified it as being made by a brand that makes woman's caps exclusively. And how was I to tell? I wasn't familiar with the brands of women's clothes. And the tag wasn't specific at all. But a clerk pointed it all out to me. And then I thought, "How many people seeing me walk around town noticed that?! And the people at The Disney Store where I was applying for a job?!!!! I can't begin to tell you all how humiliated I felt.

I was so embarrassed that I couldn't even bring myself to return it to the store on my own, but a lady friend I know offered to do it for me. And she did. So I did get my money back.

Now fortunately I did later on find a place on the web that sells "Big Apple" caps and got one for the same price that is actually a lot cooler and much more like I want, a denim type with two-color fabric, light blue and dark blue denim. But before I bought it online, even though the online page said specifically that it was a man's cap I emailed the hat man who owned it specifically to make sure. Just in case.

LOL Yeah, tell me about it - that's what I was trying to figure out after the fact myself! The apparent dead giveaway was this metal logo stuck into its side which gave it away, it couldn't be removed. Here's another question: why have all the cool retro clothes mostly come back for ladies but not for gents? Don't make any sense to me.

I haven't heard back from the DS yet, they tell me they're still going over the applications. I hope to hear back from them soon, or at least before the holidays.

Maybe because too many men still own the retro-looking clothes from way back when they first came out?

Hey, ya know? I never thought of that! That just might be true. LOL Or maybe it's a plot devised by the world to make sure that no more dudes like me are running around! LOL :wwww:

By the way Rich, speaking of retro... I just found and bought a Disco Goofy just like the one you found the pic of! He's currently decorating my boom box, sittin right on top of it and appearing to beam at whatever music selection I choose! LOL I wonder how collectible he's considered.

I just threw out my second (now non-working) portable audio cassette recorder (pre-boom box)! Anybody used one of them lately?

It sorta stuck in my brain against my will. :wow: LOL

I got my first one in 1987 as a birthday gift just before I entered college and as soon as I opened it my older sister said, "You got a Boom Box!" and I went "Huh? It's a tape deck!" But I can't get the phrase out of my head, too catchy and easy to say. It's even worse since now all the stores and packaging boxes tend to use that phrase too! :walt: But it was cool though, first tape player I ever had with two speakers that was portable and not my stereo!

Before then, I had a GE portable tape player (you've seen them: they're those flat ones that lie on their back with one big square speaker over the tape insert and a pull-out plastic handle around the button area) and used it to death until it busted. I used to carry it with an ear jack (the little white type that only stuck in one ear :) ).

Here's something I treasure far better, though! I've got my original stereo record player set which I still use! I've had it since 1974 when my parents gave it to me since they didn't really listen to it much anymore! Its "stack needle" function still works although I stopped using it years ago when a store cautioned me they actually damage records. And its 8-Track player still works! (Yes, I do still have my 8-tracks! ) Only problem is, I need to get a new needle for the record player. Or get a new record player. Either can be special ordered, fortunately. :)

The only thing I treasure more is my record and music collection! I have over 500 records! And how many times have I blared my cherished-and-still-pampered-to-death Mickey Mouse Disco album on my stereo? Or how about my soundtrack of the 1977 Mickey Mouse Club? Or heck, the ORIGINAL Mickey Mouse Club album I had?
:wwww:
