I was at Wal-Mart 1 1/2 hours before midnight, there to make sure I'd get my Pirates of the Caribbean DVD complete with an "Aztec gold" coin as promised on posters they've had displayed in the store for a week. It was billed as "quantities limited" and only available started at 12:01 am today until 6 a.m., so I was there early to make sure I got mine.

Midnight rolled around and they had no idea where the coins were.

They searched and searched, but turned up nothing. This was in the Covington, Louisiana Wal-Mart. At 12:10 am I asked if they could please call the Wal-Mart in Slidell, LA for me to ask if they had the coins there, because it is only a twenty minute drive from there and I'd simply drive there to get mine if they had it.

After waiting and waiting, they finally called the Slidell store and guess what? The Slidell store knew nothing about the promotion, and hadn't even gotten the posters about it. No, they didn't have any coins either.

So, I've seen the cursed treasure on the poster, and perhaps I knows too much -- cause I wanted that coin! Arrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

But, at least I do have my "treasure" in the great two-disk DVD set of "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl." If you'll excuse me, I intended to drown me sorrows with some grog and warm up my ol' DVD player. There be swashbucklin' ahead, maties!

And lookee here... I've already found footage on the DVD from the Disneyland version of PoC plus a deleted scene from the movie that has the mayor being dunked into the well and coming up with a stream of water spurting out of his mouth!
(Okay, so that's not water in the MickEmoticon... but it is the closest I've got! )

Aye, but there's a happy ending, me maties... After all, this does involve a Disney movie, now doesn't it?

So, back to last night... By the time it got to be 12:30 am it truly was cursed treasure -- I was cursing under my breath.
After the clerk found out that the other Wal-Mart not only didn't have the coin but hadn't heard anything about the promotion (and hadn't even gotten the poster with the news of it), I and the other customers waiting for our cursed treasure were told to go ahead and buy the DVD at that time (it was 12:30 am) and then call at 7 am when the daytime manager would be in, who would most likely be able to tell us that by then they had found the treasure and we'd be able to come in with our receipt and pick up our bounty.

So, this morning I called, as instructed, and reached the store manager. It turned out not to be the daytime manager, but the nighttime one still on duty -- but no matter. He told me they had found the coins and that I could come in that morning and claim what was rightfully mine.

In a flash I was off! After making my way through the empty sea of asphalt (the nearly-empty Wal-Mart parking lot), I swaggered in, on a mission to retrieve my hidden treasure. Returning to the lair of electronics, I found a bonny lass standing next to the money box. Straight-away, I spied the booty I was after: she had next to her 3 small pirate loot bags, each with a cursed coin concealed within. She cheerfully surrendered one to me, which brought a smile to my old mug at last.

Aye, matie, I finally got my treasure!

But I be willin' to share, I be!

Here's what the Aztec gold looks like:

Beware, before you go in search of your own cursed treasure... It seems to have a strange effect on me:

And I should have kept it out of reach of my mate's hands, because she's come under the treasure's spell as well:
