Sure! I'd be glad to explain all that.

But first, I'm going to move this topic to the "How Do You Do (It)?" area of the Disney Echo, where you'll find my reply with the explanation.

Yoo Hoo, Nick!

Sorry that I haven't put an explanation about all of this before now!

First, there is a thread which describes how the giving our "ears" (also known as Disney EchoEars) started here on the Disney Echo. You can find out about that here.

After Steve Tikiman Seifert decided to choose the Disney Echo as the official message board of his < Polynesian Resort web pages >, he thought it would be fitting to have a lei version of the Disney EchoEars to give to folks who joined the Disney Echo through his website. I agreed, and made a versions of the ears with a lei attached. (I know, I know, you don't really wear a lei up so high that they'd touch your mouse ears on top of your head, but I took artistic license... which reminds me, I gotta get that license renewed soon.)
:)

So, that's why you see some Disney Echo members (also referred to as "Disney EchoEars," just like the "ears" themselves) with the original mouse-eared hat style and others with the lei-style. I give the lei style not only to those who say they've joined the Disney Echo after finding it on Tikiman's website, but anyone who expresses a love for the Polynesian Resort or is about to stay there some time in the future.

Everyone who has joined the Disney Echo is a Disney EchoEar. That's why in the signature under people's posts you'll find an "I'm a Disney EchoEar" logo. By the way, everyone is welcome to use this logo on other places that allow pictures in signatures when you post on those sites, and on your own website as well. It's a great way to find more people interested in joining the Disney Echo. On message forums that don't allow pictures in signatures (like the Disney Dollarless list, where many of you learned about the Disney Echo and then joined), I simply put this text at the end of my posts:

-Rich Koster
I'm a Disney EchoEar at < http://DisneyEcho.emuck.com >

...and you're welcome to do the same thing, with your own name, of course!
:D

How do the "I'm a Disney EchoEar" pictures show up in people's signatures? I've been helping newbies out by adding them to their Disney Echo signature for them because I remember how it can be when you're totally new to a place - - it can be overwhelming. There is an article about how to add these (or anything else, following the examples given) to your own signature on the Disney Echo right here which you can read if you're interested.

You also asked about the Mickey ears under peoples' names. The ones you see in the left column when looking at messages are indications of how many messages (posts and/or replies) they've written on the Disney Echo:
  • = Newbie Disney EchoEar who has written less than 3 messages
  • = Disney EchoEar who has written 3 to 11 messages
  • = Disney EchoEar Regular who has written 12 to 49 messages
  • = Disney EchoEar Mouseter who has written 50 to 248 messages
  • = Disney EchoEar Grand Mouseter who has written 250 or more messages.

ModEARators on the Disney Echo get their own set of Mickey heads which look like this:

Also in the left column near each person's name you'll see either a Minnie Mouse-style (with bow) or Mickey Mouse-style (without bow) mouse-eared hat. These are automagically placed there when folks have indicated in their MouseControl Panel whether they are female or male.

Just ask if you have any more questions, 'cause I'm all ears!
:wwww:
