October 1st, 2004

It's Walt Disney World's birthday! It opened on 10/1/71.
:clapping:

Also on this date in WDW history, EPCOT had its groundbreaking in 1979 and its grand opening in 1982, and Disney's Caribbean Beach resort opened in 1988.

Elsewhere in the world of Disney on this date, Disneyland had a celebration for Guest number 5 million when they entered that park on this day in 1956, Splash Mountain opened in Tokyo Disneyland in 1992, and Disney's Vero Beach Resort opened 1995.

Happy birthday, Walt Disney World!

Although I prefer Disneyland when comparing Magic Kingdom to Magic Kingdom, overall I prefer Walt Disney World for all of its theme parks and resorts for the total vacation experience you get at WDW.

Hello, Disney reservations? I'd like to add this comment to my reservation: We'll be there this weekend celebrating a birthday.

Is it mine? No, it isn't.

Someone else in our party? No, not exactly. We'll be celebrating Walt Disney World's birthday."

Hello? Hello?

Happy Birthday, WDW!  I still wish they had celebrated a little more for the 30th.... even though I enjoyed the 100 years of Magic..... Rich, don't forget to have them break out the Mickey confetti and the special desserts!  I prefer celebrating at Tony's Town Square or Cinderella's Royal table!  I loved the desserts at those two!  Have a good time this weekend! :pixiedust:  :happydance:

Thanks, Marsha! We're not really going to tell anyone we're "celebrating a birthday" while we're there in order to get any birthday freebies, but we'll have our own private celebrations anyway.

I'll be sure to put "have a good time" on my list of things we want to do this weekend. Can't forget that!!
:D

I'll say "Yoo Hoo!" to the Headless Horseman at MNSSHP for all of you.

What a disappointment!

We were in WDW on the 1st and nobody knew that it was the park's birthday.

We asked at the front desk of the Contemporary (whose birthday it also was) what special events were planned for the day. Not a soul at the desk knew that it was the park's anniversary -- and when one cast member went backstage to ask if anyone knew of anything special happening, he came back out to say that only 1 person back there even knew about it.

We thought that there might have been a special pin released or maybe even a little postcard or sticker -- but there was nothing.

Many of the cast members in the park were wearing rectangular badges with a happy 32nd birthday message though.

My wife managed to sweet-talk a CM at Epcot to relinquish his (she's "a cast-member too", she informed him).

Granted, 32 isn't a biggie as far as anniversaries go -- but it seemed a little odd that there was virtually no mention of it at all.

On a brighter note -- a limited edition Nighmare Before Christmas pin was released that day.

We're not pin collectors -- but I am a Tim Burton fan.
