Musical Talent from 3 Continents Takes Epcot Stage in August

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The Epcot World Music Concert Series continues in August by featuring popular international touring groups with roots in Africa, Europe and South America. They will perform each Tuesday-Sunday, with a resident Epcot World Showcase performing group taking the stage each Monday.

Performances are at 5:45, 7 and 8:15 p.m. on the America Gardens Theatre stage in Epcot World Showcase.

The August lineup includes:
  • Baka Beyond (July 29-Aug. 3, Aug. 5-10) -- Top musicians from six countries in West and Central Africa and the Celtic fringes of Europe mix harmony and rhythm in songs imported from the African rainforest via Brittany, Cornwall and the Outer Hebrides.
  • Mestre Ambrosio (Aug. 12-17, 19-24) -- Brazilian musicians mix Latin rhythms and dance steps while performing music with influences from rock to Oriental -- a mix resulting in urban music with a rural feeling.
  • Vieux Diop with Wassalou (Aug. 26-Sept. 1) -- Senegalese musician Vieux Diop and West African pop group Wassalou combine ancient and modern into a cultural celebration.
"Resident" Epcot performers Mo'Rockin and Off Kilter will perform on the America Gardens stage each Monday during the event.

The Epcot World Music Concert Series, which concludes Sept. 1, is included with regular theme park admission. For tickets, guests may contact 407/W-DISNEY, a travel agent or online at disneyworld.com. Park Hopper and Park Hopper Plus tickets may also be purchased in advance, at a discount, at The Disney Stores nationwide at special Walt Disney World kiosks.

The first-time event, hosted by syndicated radio personality Tom Joyner, offers families who purchase an exclusive event package access to Walt Disney World theme parks and all the entertainment shows, seminars and activities plus surprises and goodies Joyner has planned.

"This is a one-of-a-kind event and the first of its kind at Disney World," said Joyner, known as the 'hardest working man in radio.' "We've got the hottest comedy, R&B, hip-hop and gospel artists -- and the best part is that it's all geared toward families."

Based at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort, reunion participants will have a chance to enjoy the magic of Disney with special events Joyner has scheduled to make it truly a unique experience, including:
  • Opening night on Downtown Disney Pleasure Island featuring the humor of Cedric the Entertainer and Mike Epps from the hit movies "Next Friday" and "Friday After Next."
  • An "after party" session with the Gap Band.
  • Tom Joyner Day at Magic Kingdom and Disney's Animal Kingdom -- during which families can catch Tom in daily parades and participate in other specially planned activities.

  • A Sunday morning concert with performances by Michelle Williams, Kurt Carr and pioneering gospel group Mighty Clouds of Joy.

The National Football League champion Bucs resume practice at the complex Aug. 4 following participation in the American Bowl in Tokyo Aug. 2 vs. the New York Jets.
