I am planning on taking my 2 daughters and 2 grandchildren to DL in Dec.  The grandchildren are age 5 and the other one will turn 4 while we are there.  I think we will stay at Disneyland Hotel.  I am open to all ideas.  Thanks.

Yoo Hoo!

Did you mean it was the first trip to Disneyland for you as well as your daughters and granddaughters?

We have some tips for travelling to WDW with children that you can adapt for your Disneyland trip because the parks are similar enough to each other. Take a look at these links:

Tips for a WDW trip with young kids by blue fairy

Infants and Children at WDW

And read this one then do the opposite!:
Newspaper article about planning a WDW trip with kids

You should also pick up Birnbaum's Disneyland Resort 2003: Expert Advice from the Inside Source for the official guidebook and The Unofficial Guide to Disneyland 2003 for a contrasting view. Reading both books together, you'll get a balanced idea of what to expect.

Have a great trip! If any other Disney EchoEars have more tips, just jump right in. :D

It is not my first trip to Disneyland but it has been a long time.  We took our daughters and 3 sons almost 20 years ago, so it almost like my first.

Thanks for the tips I will check them out.

I have a few tips.  Plan ahead! If you go in December, try to go at the beginning (Christmas crowds can spoil a trip Big Time). When it gets busy @ Dl, it ain't no fun @ all.  I've never stayed @ the DL hotel, but I have stayed @ the Pacific (I think its called something else now. Its right next to the DL hotel). Staying @ the Dl hotel is very expensive. It is a little convenient, because you can ride the monorail into DL. However, if you decide to walk, your best bet is to stay @ a hotel on Harbor Blvd. Its cheaper, and less walking distance to the main entrances of the park. Not only that, but the DL Hotels are not worth the money. You pretty much get the same thing @ the other hotels (minus Disney sheets) and the cost per night is cut in half. The last tip is plan your day. Precious time can be saved if you visit one area @ a time. Try to go on more popular rides first or areas first, because as the day goes on the wait times get significantly better. If you can stand getting up early, get there when the park opens. Sometimes you can get a third of the rides you want to go on out of the way without wait times. If you have additional questions you can email me @ Bishopsnet@yahoo.com. I go to Dl about every eight months, so other than knowing when it gets busy month by month, I know quite a bit. You can also check out Intercotwest.com. They have a lot of helpful info.

Im planning a trip to Disneyland Resort in early May. Im a research oriented person and part of the fun for me is reading up on everything I can in planning the trip.

One book that I have found helpful is The Unofficial Guide to Disneyland 2003 by Bob Sehlinger. Although I dont have children he has a chapter devoted to Disneyland with children. Also, all the attractions are rated by his past readers. The categories include pre-school, grade school, teens, young adults, over 30 and seniors.

The book covers Disneyland, California Adventure, Downtown Disney and Universal Studios. In addition he offers touring plans, including the Dumbo-or-die-in-a-day touring plan for adults with small children.

If you wait until around November the 2004 edition will be out. I read somewhere on the net that the most current version available would be the most useful since it includes any changes theyve made in the parks.

If youd like to have my copy after my May trip, you can for the cost of postage. (Unless, of course, I completely wear it out!;) Just email me at goodgirl@easystreet.com and we can make arrangements.
