This is a wonderful light comedy. Everyone will love it. Julie Andrews is "practically perfect" as the Queen....it's great to see her in another Disney film, after 37 years.
But it is Anne Hathaway (who I will now refer to as Princess Anne) who is the real star. Her character, Mia, is a plain-jane geek who finds out from her visiting grandma(the queen) that she is a princess. She is stunning once she becomes a "princess". Of course, Mia is taunted by her classmates-especially a pretty-but-concieted cheerleader played by Mandy Moore(a real-life pop princess). Mia's best friend in school is Lilly, a geek in her own right who is seemingly the only one who really believes that Mia is a princess. (Lilly is played by Heather Matarazzo.) I won't add any more spoilers here....I'll just say that Princess Anne is just as pretty as Belle. After you see her get her 'transformation' I think you'll agree. I think she's America's newest sweetheart.
I hope you all will go to see The Princess Diaries....it looks like a wonderful family film.

Yoo Hoo, JohnMickey!
Thanks for the review! My wife and son saw the movie and they enjoyed it very much! Then we all went to see it together and I also think it is a great movie. Nice to see Disney making G-rated movies again that the whole family can not only see but enjoy.

Well, it looks like The Princess Diaries has passed the box office gross of Atlantis. Just think-a G rated teenage comedy being more popular than an animated feature. Anne's movie has made $.5 million so far....you can bet it'll reach $1M by Labor Day. Well done Disney!

Yoo Hoo! I just saw that The Princess Diaries just made it to the $ million mark. It just goes to prove that a live action film with a G rating can be popular. We all need to see a movie like this to get away from these trying times now, and TPD is the perfect feel-good film. All hail Princess Anne!
