Disney Consumer Products New Line Of Disney Electronics
The Disney 13" Color Television (SRP $119.99) and Disney DVD Player (SRP $99.99), shown on the right and sold separately, have robust features incorporating the personalities of Disney characters and a unique user interface created by frog design. Developed for ages 6 and older, the TV has detachable speaker "ears," the DVD Player offers a kids' simple remote and both items have detachable "shoes." These items, and the rest of the Disney Electronics line, are now available at Circuit City, Sears and Target.

Uniquely Designed Color Television, DVD Player, Digital Radio, Stereo CD Boombox, CD Player and Clock Radio Are Hitting Store Shelves

BURBANK, Calif., May 7 -- Disney Consumer Products (NYSE: DIS) is bringing to market Disney-branded video and audio products that combine Disney's unparalleled entertainment content with leading technology, it was announced today by Andy Mooney, chairman of Disney Consumer Products Worldwide. The products, currently hitting store shelves in North America, have been created in conjunction with frog design and will be manufactured and distributed by Memcorp Inc., makers of Memorex consumer electronics.

The six new Disney Electronics products include a 13" color television, DVD player, personal digital radio, stereo CD boombox, personal CD player and clock radio. The items join the Motorola/Disney FRS 2-way radio (left) and 2.4 GHz cordless phone (right) that debuted in fall 2002, kicking off Disney's consumer electronics initiative. All products are specifically designed for ages 6 and older, but have robust features that make them enjoyable for the entire family. The new Disney Electronics will initially be available at Circuit City, Sears and Target.

"The introduction of new audio and video products indicates our continued commitment to developing an entire family of Disney Electronics that bring magic and innovation to the segment," said Mooney. "It makes perfect sense for Disney to produce real electronic products for children that not only have features inspired by Disney characters, but also provide an ideal way to showcase Disney's entertainment content."

Added Barry Smith, chairman and CEO of Memcorp, "Statistics show that the majority of parents take a child's preference into account when purchasing electronics. We see that the children's consumer electronics segment is virtually unaddressed by other manufacturers, therefore, it is a natural fit for products to be developed that cater to a child's preferences while offering the quality and magic expected from Disney."

frog design, the global design firm behind Disney Electronics, again incorporated into each product unique Disney elements and leading technology.

"The new Disney Electronics further combine the emotional appeal of Disney's brand and characters with a very innovative technical design -- especially in the easy-to-use interface that was created exclusively for Disney," said Hartmut Esslinger, co-CEO of frog design. "They are 'serious'
electronics, but we have made them fun."

The functionality of each Disney Electronics product is tailored to be appropriate for a child's sensibility and world. The unique personalities of Disney characters are incorporated into each product; however, character art is not displayed on their colorful exterior. Disney Electronics are available in two models: the red and yellow Classic model inspired by Mickey Mouse and his friends, and the pink and lavender Princess model derived from Disney's timeless princesses. Additionally, a Disney/Pixar Buzz & Beyond model is offered in white, purple and green and is born from the Disney/Pixar Toy Story franchise. The new products and their individual features are as follows:

Disney 13" Color Television* -- 181 programmable channels with digital tuning, sleep timer function, trilingual on-screen display, memory channel backup, closed caption decoder, front and rear A/V jacks, full function remote control, customized Disney designed user interface (per series). The television also has detachable shoes and speaker ears to give the item a whole different look (SRP $119.99).

Disney DVD Player* -- DVD/CD player function, customized Disney on-screen graphic user interface and screen saver, Dolby surround sound, S-video output, full function adult remote control plus kids' simple remote and detachable shoes (SRP $99.99).

Disney Personal CD Player -- Digital AM/FM stereo tuning, 20 radio station pre-sets, 45-second electronic anti-shock protection, programmable CD memory, bass boost system, dual headphone jacks, CD, CD-R and CD-RW playback, animated Disney LCD display. Includes wrap-around headphones with volume control (SRP $49.99).

Disney Personal Digital AM/FM Radio -- Digital radio tuner, ten radio station pre-sets, full function LCD display, bass boost switch, quick-release neck strap, detachable belt clip, wrap-around headphones (SRP $29.99).

Disney Digital AM/FM Stereo CD Boombox -- Digital AM/FM stereo tuner with 32 radio station pre-sets, top-loading CD player with programmable CD memory, full function LCD display, CD/CD-R playback, CD track skip up/down repeat
function, pre-set EQ (SRP $49.99).

Disney AM/FM Clock Radio -- Digital AM/FM tuner with 20 radio station pre-sets, 0.9" LED display, snooze button, sleep timer, five different Disney wake up sounds customized to the individual model (SRP $29.99).

* Disney 13" Color Television neatly stacks on top of the Disney DVD Player to maximize space.

The colorful packaging calls out each product's unique features, as well as specific character elements.

The Disney Electronics family will continue to grow into new categories this year, as a third wave of products, also developed in conjunction with frog design, will be introduced during the 2003 holiday season.

Well, you know how Disney is with sequels lately. . . If enough people buy the 13" one, I wonder if they'll make bigger sizes of that model, too?

;)

BTW, we have the Motorola Mickey-style cordless phone and we love it!

Has anyone tried the new Disney TV (the one with the ear speakers) or cordless phone yet? I ask because I would like to know

(1) What the TV's "entertaining, customized Disney-designed user interface" described on amazon is, and

(2) What ring tones and sounds the phone has.

Any help would be appreciated!

Funny you should ask! :D

I have the red with yellow base Classic Disney Cordless Phone and I love it.

Want to hear what you can have the phone do when you get a phone call? Just click here and listen!

And if you should ever lose your Mickey phone (buried in the seat cushions, left in another room, etc.) then go to its yellow base (that won't "walk" away because it is plugged into the wall! ) and press its page button... Off in the distance somewhere, you'll hear Mickey's voice leading you to where the Mickey phone is!

That model also has a ringtone that plays it's a small world (after all) and Zip-A-Dee-Do-Dah .

Those are the ring tones and sounds that the "classic" model has. If you look here you can select the other Disney phones and then hear what they have to offer.
