Tip:  You'll be able to get more into your suitcase if you use those plastic packing bags they sell.

Just before our first trip to WDW, I decided to try them.  They worked out great and we've used them ever since. I get mine from a site called packmate.com but I think samsonite also sells them.

You may have seen the vacuum version for home use, but with the travel ones you don't need a vacuum cleaner.  You just put your clothes inside, zip the bag, and then roll out the air.  You can pack so much more.

A couple of other advantages, I've found are:
*Everything is neatly organized and the bags are clear, so if you're stopped at airport security they don't have to open the packing bags or touch your things.
*Everything is protected, if something in your bag spills (like shampoo or suntan lotion) there's no mess to clean.
*You can pack last minute wet bathing suits in them and not worry about ruining your other clothes.

Anyone else have packing tips to share?

Do you see any advantage to these over gallon-size Ziplock bags?

Good question!

There are a few advantages:
1) They come in different sizes (medium, large, even extra large) so you don't have to use as many bags.

2) They're more sturdy because it's a different type of plastic and the zipper part is stronger.

3) The brand that I purchased has a release valve built into the bottom. It really gets the air out easily, and keeps it out.

I do also use the Hefty-brand bags for some smaller items because they have a good zipper. I find they don't usually hold up as well and I end up tossing them after one trip, but I can (and do) reuse the packing bags.

HI there Tinkerrose! I have the space bags, but not really happy with them. I bought a book on packing... yeah, a book on packing, can you imagine?!?!?...and find the bundling method to be a great space saver. I will try to find information on this method to post here. Good to see you, by the way! :wink2:

Try this link...scroll down to the lengthy description for bundle packing!

I purchased some bags from QVC...I used them last year when we went to Disneyland and Phoenix.  I loved them.  I put so much in the bags and it was easy to organize each persons clothes in a bag.  I need to get some more for our September trip to Disney World...we won't have the luxury of a washer/dryer at the grandparent!

I think it will help now that they are opening the bags and searching them---I know if you jam a suitcase and they can't get it closed they don't take the time to neatly pack it for you.  I used to stuff my suitcases when you could lock them...with the bags it was much easier.

Also remember if you fly there is a specific weight limit on the bags and limit on size of bags.  If either is over you have to pay an penalty.  Some of the clearance bags at the stores are too big and you have to pay extra for them at the airport (my parents were told this by an honest sales person in AZ).  Somone in front of us last time had to pay $50+ for a too heavy bag!

Hiya, DebiDebiDebi!  Good to *see* you too.

Thank for the link.  Although that Bundle method of packing sounds interesting and would probably work really well, I think it would take time and maybe even require some practice.  But it's a good tip, especially for organized packers.

andymattmom makes a good point too.  The airlines have started charging more for bags that are over their weight limit.  That's another good thing to keep in mind as you plan what to pack.

These are great tips! Mine is that they are saying to pack your shoes on top now! I used to pack them on the bottom, so they wouldn't mess up my clothes!
