in the number of CMs wearing lanyards at the parks?

During our most recent visit, I noticed that there were many fewer CMs wearing lanyards.  Those that did have lanyards on seemed to have lots of old pins and none of them were lanyard series pins.

I really missed the fun of talking with CMs while looking at their lanyards during past trips.  I hope we just hit it on an off weekend.

Has anyone else noticed this or heard anything about a change?

I was there in January and March and didn't notice a change, I'm going back next month, I'll keep a look out. I know in January it was pretty cool a few days and I was able to find 4 lanyard pins in one day...and I was just wandering around AK, not going full steam trying to scam all the lanyards :D

Good to hear things were normal during your visits.  I'm hoping we just hit it at an off time -- you know, resting after spring break.  I'll be anxious to hear what you find next month.

BTW, I LOVE you avatar!

I didn't notice a difference on this last trip, in fact my daughter found 3 lanyard pins, and I found two! In my experience, or maybe it's just luck...but I found more lanyard pins at Animal Kingdom than any other park (and that's on my last few trips)

Hope you don't mind if I piggy back on this thread and ask you to explain how pin-trading works.  I've heard of it, but not what it is exactly that you DO!  I know what a lanyard is, but how is it particular to this hobby?  Just curious!  Maybe it's something I need to do!!!!

When ever you see a Castmember with a pin lanyard - Just walk up, say hi and ask to look at their pins! They will trade with you - with only a few rules:
1) the colored lanyards are for kids only. This is great because it keeps some great pins for kids to trade with out all the 'professionals' getting to them first.

2) it has to be a Disney Pin

3) they can't have that pin on their lanyard already.

4) they don't like 'name' pins either for obvious reasons

Other than that, they can't turn down a trade. Most CM's are so fun to talk to - they seem to enjoy it as well. I used to buy tons of $4-5 pins at TDS, when they had them, then I'd trade like crazy at the parks cause they're $6-12.50 there, so even if I got a 'rack' pin, I was ahead. YOu have to look out, because sometimes you can find a real "find" on the lanyards. Limited Editions - or some from other parks, I got a tokyo one last trip. And there are Lanyard only pins... Pins that cannot be bought, but only found on a CM's lanyard!

Thank you, Kerri!  That's really helpful information.  Might be something the 12 year old would like to do.  So, can you still find pins at the Disney Store (is that what TDS means?)?  Do they sell the lanyards?

Do guests trade with each other or just with CMs?

Just a curious Tink here!

Some guests do trade with each other, some pin carts have tables there, and some guests will congregate around them and do some trading. From what I heard TDS was getting rid of their pins :( BUT  there are starter lanyards all over WDW, they come with 4 pins... 2 different styles so that you have one to trade and one to keep!

Sorry to keep bugging you, Kerri, but do they have resort specific pins?  We're staying at the Poly and that would be a neat souvenir.
