Would anyone who's done a solo trip to WDW like to share their experiences and tips?

Although I love traveling with my husband, I have to admit that I think it would be great fun to go to WDW alone (so much to do all at your own pace).  But I'd really like to hear from folks who have already done it.  Did you get lonely?  Did you eat in sit-down restaurants or stick to counter service? What did you do in the evening?

Can someone out there  :help:

I would be interested in hearing about solo trips, too, so don't be bashful.  I know I would just love some time alone and a chance to go at MY pace!

I just did a couple of nights in Las Vegas, and I ate in sit-down restaurants by myself.  It does feel a little awkward, but it's definitely do-able.

Here's a report my wife wrote about a great time she had in 1994 by herself when I was at a convention on our WDW trip one day:

I've visited WDW by myself. The occasion was when my husband was attending a professional convention. I couldn't attend all of the convention with him, so while he did seminars I did WDW alone. We had been active on computer nets for several months, and I was fairly well versed on WDW by then. I had a blast! I never felt I was alone! I had hundreds of people whose posts I'd read in my mind. I felt like all the people from the newsgroup were with me in spirit. They were there before me, and I was retracing their steps, seeing through their eyes, and I knew I'd be posting information for them to read and enjoy about my trip. Also, when you think about it, there are cast members and other visitors there, too. You are in a crowd of like-minded Disney fans, so you're not totally alone. So strike up a conversation with people in line. People watch. The entertainment is still entertaining by yourself.
;)

I had complete freedom of movement.  I had no problems, had a lot of fun.

Well, I guess I *am* going to be a solo traveler to WDW--in October!  My DH just informed me that he is using his frequent flyer miles to get me airfare to Orlando right from our hometown (no going to Portland, yea! ).  I get to go for my birthday weekend, the 22nd-25th, the 25th being my birthday.  He said, "go up to St. Augustine and visit your dad or go visit your mom or just do WDW--whatever!"  5 nights!  I won't be able to afford staying onsite at the Poly like our trip in August, but I found a great car/hotel package through Expedia.com, and I'm so excited!  I think I'll pass on driving to St. Aug by myself.  But, my mom can always meet me to do stuff, or I can drive out to her place near Winter Haven.

So, now I really, really, really need tips for solo travel at WDW!  Bring 'em on!

I do so enjoy people watching.  Maybe if I make my people watching purposeful like the guy at BadShoe.com does, I'll have even more fun.  Maybe I could look for cool t-shirts on vacationEARS and take photos for my own amusement.  Maybe I'll look for lovebirds in amorous embraces :hearts:

Or maybe I'll walk around offering to take pictures for groups of people, so they can all be in the photo!

This will be too much fun!  I did have a blast doing the Star Trek Experience and the Race for Atlantis by myself in Vegas, so I know I will have fun going solo!

If you go on a solo trip, A good resteraunt if you are not shy is the one in Germany @  EPCOT. Not only will you have a good chance to strike up a conversation with a cast member, but the nature of the seating places groups of people together. Just beware of spicy food!
Another nice thing to do is to just walk the hidden paths you may encounter (just make sure they don't go backstage), and see the little things that people often pass by in quick trips. Remember the single riders only line @ Test Track!

I'm always going alone when I go and I have a blast! I'm always having to go alone as my entire life my friends are always even more broke than I am. So I eventually get tired of waiting around for them and go anyway. I have my own pace, peace and quiet, I can relax and not have anything I want to do blocked by someone else's schedule or food preferences or "I want to see this first"s! It's wonderful and I never feel lonely there! Go for it!

I loved the Biergarten when we went 6 years ago.  Met a lovely family there with a marching band.  My daughter still says they had the best chocolate milk in the world (and she meant the WHOLE world).

I'll be there during the wine and food festival.  Anyone got any tips for making the most of that experience?

My mom is checking into getting tickets to La Nouba for my birthday.  Hope she can get them!
