Yoo Hoo, Disney EchoEars!

This is from Deb Wills' wdwig.com website:

IMPORTANT CHANGES to the Priority Seating Policy!!

Beginning August 4, the booking window for most WDW dining locations will be 180 days out for guests with a paid deposit on a Walt Disney Travel Company package and 90 days out for all other guests. The only exceptions to this will be specialized dining locations such as dinner shows, Lunch With a Disney Artist, Bistro de Paris, and Victoria & Alberts. A valid WDW Travel Company package booking number (with paid deposit) will be required when calling for a Priority Seating for more than 90 days out.

So, if this applies to your upcoming WDW trip, on Monday start calling for your Priority Seatings!!!

I really appreciate that Disney is trying to put that extra bit of value into the vacations of those who choose to stay on-property and book through WDW Travel.  The more perks, the more they will draw vacationEARs to their resorts, and frankly, I think this should have always been the case for WDW resort guests.  It's one of those simple things that costs them relatively little to implement, but gives their customers a little something more.

Spot on, I say!

I, on the other hand think this just stinks.    I am an Annual Passholder and therefore don't need to book any of the packages - which almost always include park tickets.   The way I see it is then those who decide to take a trip every other year or so beat out those of us who are faithful and visit more often........  Things that make you go hmmmm.

Don't get me wrong, to those that this benefits I'm happy for, but again, for us AP'ers, this stinks.

Similarly, the FTP they offered was a great deal!  But again, I have an AP and therefore, it was of no use to me.

It's also not good for thoose of us who book through AAA. I'm just gald I have mine all done for my trip in 22 days. It's not really fiar to us who don't book throught them but do stay on Proprty. :unhappy:  I'm not going to worry because I don't have control.

Don't know if it applies to all AAA agencies, but my local AAA specializes in Disney vacations and although they (AAA) book the packages for me, my ressie and deposit slip have a Walt Disney Travel Co. confirmation number at the top of the form.  So, I should be able to schedule PS's earlier too.  I've already booked a few, so it won't affect me this trip- only 79 days til we leave for the World!!!

UPDATE: DISNEY CANCELS 180 DAY OUT IDEA

This is from pscalculator.net:

Starting on August 4, 2003, Walt Disney World as announced the following Priority Seating (PS) Policy will go into effect:

Please note that the information shared last night regarding the WDTC 180 Day Advance Dining Reservation has been discontinued.

Our Executive Leaders have made the decision to NOT pursue this benefit effective immediately.

DRS booking window will be standardized to 90 days for ALL Guests beginning August 4

Over the last several days, you have received several different communications concerning a new policy that would have allowed Guests to book DRS reservations 180 days in advance if they have booked a Travel Company package with the appropriate deposit.

We knew that the original policy with multiple booking windows was confusing to our Guests and Cast so we wanted to standardize this policy and thought about adding a different booking window to benefit other businesses. This approach also began to create some confusion, so we have decided to further study the policy.

Therefore, due to Guest and Cast feedback we will hold off on implementing this new policy until further notice.

Beginning August 4, the DRS booking window will be standardized to 90 days out for anyone who wants to book a priority seating at any WDW location except the following:

This is a big win for our Guests because they will all have the ability to book their priority seating within a standard window and will not have to call back multiple times.

NEW UPDATE: As of 6:30 PM on July 31st, 2003, the 90 Day PS for ALL Guests and ALL restaurants except for those mentioned above will be the new PS policy starting August 4, 2003. This includes ALL characters meals (Cinderella's Royal Table Breakfast, too), all Resort and Themepark PS Restaurants, Fantasmic! Dinner Package, Grand Floridian Kid's Programs (The Pirate Cruise, Wonderland Tea Party, Grand Adventures in Cooking) and evening care facilities like the Neverland Club.

Recreation activities like fishing, water sports, Illuminations cruises, horse-back riding, golf, golf carts and tennis will remain the same (see
PS Calculator).

Lastly, many people will be calling on Monday, August 4, to make PS for CRT. I am very optimistic most everyone will get their dates as instead of everyone trying for the same day, it will be spread out over many dates. The 90 day mark is November 2, 2003. If you want to eat at any PS restaurant or character meal and you are within the 90 day window, you can call and make them on August 4th. Be patient, there will be large call volumes all next week as the initial backlog of people who were waiting for their 60 day PS mark are now able to book much sooner. Then there's people like me who were coming up on their 120 day mark who now have to wait another 30 days.

PSCalculator.net updates will be taking place over the next few weeks. Once the OFFICIAL announcement is made, I will start work on updating the PS Report but it shouldn't take too long. The PS Calculator has always had a 90 day break down so it is still a useful tool in your PS planning. Many of my PS Spotlights will need to be updated to reflect the new 90 day PS policy.

It does sound like it was getting awfully confusing for people!  I bet the CMs at WDW-DINE were having fits.  And if our little sampling of disgruntlement was any indication, there was probably a huge uproar from other travel agents, AP holders, AAA members, etc. etc.  Standardization will benefit the most people I'm sure, and 90 days seems fair.

I would say the DVC Owners really let WDW know the 180 day PS policy as first proposed was "unacceptable". Followed closely by the AP people and the Cast Members themselves.

I still feel sometime down the road, we'll see a return to guests staying at WDW resorts with a PS window opening before off-site quests.  WDW just hasn't figured out how to do it and keep everyone happy.  Time will tell and if the rumored merger of CRO and WDTC does take place this January, that might be the time it comes about.  This is pure speculation on my part.

It certainly makes sense to me Disney would want to give people as much reason to book on property.  An empty room is very expensive.
