Soarin' Lands at Epcot

Walt Disney World guests will soon take flight over the wondrous Golden State in Soarin' Over California, a new attraction landing at Epcot. The high-tech attraction features an eye-filling flyover above the rich California landscape. The Florida attraction was inspired by the hugely popular Soarin' Over California at Disney's California Adventure. Walt Disney World guests will be taking this high-flyin' journey when it opens at Epcot in 2005.

The new attraction sends guests on a sweeping flyover above the wondrous Golden State for a birds-eye view of the rich landscape and topography. "Soarin' Over California" will be the newest addition to The Land pavilion at Epcot, complementing the popular pavilion's agriculture and ecology theme.

The unforgettable experience combines cinematic artistry and state-of-the-art motion base technology. Guests are literally lifted 40 feet inside a giant projection screen dome and completely surrounded with the beauty and wonder of the state of California as their elevated theater seats take them on a scenic tour over the Golden Gate Bridge, the Redwood forests, Napa Valley, Yosemite and more. The free-flight experience intensifies as guests feel the sweeping winds and smell fragrant orange blossoms and pine trees around them.

Could it be that the helicopters seen flying over Walt Disney World the last few weeks are shooting film to replace (the upcoming Epcot) Soarin's Disneyland finale with a WDW finale?

There's also more rumors about a whole new Soarin' film to appear in that attraction in 2007 for Epcot's 25th anniversary.

How weird that you would mention the helicopters today, because I actually noticed them while we were there.  I remember thinking, "wow, I can't believe they let helicopters fly over here, especially so close to Fantasmic starting!"

I would say they were purposeful heli flights!

As far as I know, there is still a ban about flying over WDW and Disneyland, so they must have gotten special clearance (unless they were military helicopters).

Did they look like regular helicopters or military ones? And did you see a camera lens sticking out of 'em?
:D

Well, I'm pretty sure it wasn't military, just a small commercial style chopper, but I didn't see any cameramen hanging from a rope or anything.  I saw the helicopter make two passes over the arena, and that was all.  They didn't have a big banner flying that said, "Say Cheese" either!  :tounge:

I can understand not having a banner like that on it... Mickey and Minnie would break out of their Meet 'n Greet line and come a-runnin'!
:D

You know, that's funny on several levels, Rich!  Cuz, you know, they're always around people telling them that, right, so it's like a Pavlovian thing with them, so they would just "naturally" respond to "say cheese" and then of course, because being MICE, they would be wondering if it was Brie or Camembert.  You are so funny!

:sorcerer:   Soarin' Over Epcot is the best thing that DCA will be in wdw.

I'm very happy about the Soarin' project. It's one of the rides I really was excited about in Disney's California Adventure.
Now if they can only get the Indiana Jones Jeep ride into WDW I'd be thrilled.

“Soarin’ Over California” (2005) -- The popular “Soarin’ Over California” attraction at Disney’s California Adventure will take Epcot guests on an eye-filling journey above the wondrous Golden State. The unforgettable experience combines cinematic artistry and state-of-the-art motion base technology. Guests are literally lifted 40 feet inside a giant projection screen dome and completely surrounded with the beauty and wonder of the state of California. The free-flight experience intensifies as guests feel the sweeping winds and smell fragrant orange blossoms and pine trees around them. “Soarin’ Over California” will be located in The Land pavilion.

Where exactly at the Land pavillion are they placing it? It seems to me that they were a little cramped for space between it and the Imagination pavillion weren't they?

And is the projection system anything like the projection that they used over at the old Horizons pavillion, just to give me an idea of what you are talking about?

There is lots of land in between the Land and Imagination buildings because the lots are pie-shaped: as you go back deeper the width increases.

The entrance to this new Soarin' attraction will actually be inside the Land building on the first floor -- towards the left as you enter the building. You know, right where Food Rocks currently is.

Yup... better get your fill of Food Rocks while you can (if it hasn't closed already) because Food Rocks is rollin' out of there to make way for the Soarin' entrance and queue area.

The projection system that will be used for Soarin' will be much better than the old large-screen movie in the defunct Horizons attraction. Plus, just like at Disney's Calfornia Adventure and its version of Soarin', many rows of Guests will be "flown" up high, each horizonatal row moving up to be one row atop another to view the giant-screen fly-over movie.

I'm looking forward to it coming to Epcot -- but on the other hand when it opens that is one less "must-see" thing to do at DCA the next time I get out there.

The so-far unconfirmed date of January 3, 2004 is when Food Rocks in the Land at Epcot will close. The attraction will be removed to create access to the new Soarin' Over California attraction now under construction in between The Land and Imagination pavillions.

The date has now been confirmed: Epcot's "Food Rocks" in The Land will close January 3, 2004. In its place will be the entrance and queue area for the new Soarin' Over California attraction.

Yoo Hoo, Disney EchoEars!

Here's an overhead photo of Epcot with the construction area of Soarin' highlighted.

Look in the upper right of the picture where the red dotted line and the highlighting is to see the location of the Soarin' building, located between The Land and Imagination.

They're already pouring concrete for it!

Hmmm, if they let people see it right now, they could call it "Pourin' Over Epcot"
:wwww: LOL
