Disney Vacation Club Resorts Offer Whole New World Of Vacation Experiences

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- A whole new world of Disney vacation experiences -- including the first Disney resorts outside of The Walt Disney Company’s theme park locations -- are now available to guests through the unique collection of Disney Vacation Club Resorts.

Disney quality, excellent service, exceptional programming, premier locations and spacious, residential-style accommodations -- everything that says "fun," "rest," and "rejuvenation" -- are the important common elements shared by each property within the Disney Vacation Club Resorts portfolio.

Disney Vacation Club's first resort – the 531-room Disney's Old Key West Resort at the Walt Disney World Resort -- opened in December 1991. The Key West-style resort located in the heart of Walt Disney World features a quaint waterfront boardwalk and village of colorful, clapboard-sided, tin-roofed residence buildings. Resort amenities include a themed restaurant, four on-site pools, a well-stocked general store, two children's play areas, tennis and volleyball courts, a lighthouse sauna, four outdoor spas, outdoor barbeque grills, an exercise facility and marina. Every vacation villa also has a beautiful water, Lake Buena Vista Golf Course or woods view.

In recent years, the Company opened four other properties, Disney's Vero Beach Resort near Vero Beach, Fla. and Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort on Hilton Head Island, S.C. -- the first Disney resorts to be built outside the traditional theme park settings -- as well as two additional Walt Disney World resorts: Disney's BoardWalk Villas and The Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.

As Disney’s first resort to open outside the theme park boundaries, Disney's Vero Beach Resort -- which has the Atlantic Ocean as its scenic backdrop -- offers a 112-room inn and 60 vacation villas. Located less than a two-hour drive southeast from Walt Disney World, this premium Florida beach resort reflects the historical theming of the state's Treasure Coast region in its design elements, including treasure hunting, beach, citrus and the environment.

Guests may enjoy the resort's many amenities, including a nine-hole miniature golf course, croquet lawn, themed pool with spiral slide, two restaurants, exercise facility, oceanview lounge, tennis and basketball courts and children's play area, as well as a wide variety of resort activities, from eco-programs to oceanside campfires.

Built in classic Carolina island-style architecture, Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort debuted on March 1, 1996. Set among age-old live oak trees (some have been dated at more than 300 years in age!) and magnificent marshes, the quaint 102-unit property is reminiscent of vacation lodges from the 1940's. Located on a 15-acre island within Shelter Cove Harbour and oceanfront on a three-and-a-half-acre site just a short distance away, the resort and its beach house are nestled in the breathtaking natural scenery of the Carolina Low Country.

The island resort features a general store, community hall, an exercise facility, themed swimming pool and children’s play area with pool. Located nearby is Disney's Beach House, the resort’s oceanfront recreational facility with a common living room area, theme pool, children’s play area and snack bar with ocean-view seating. In addition, there are many recreational activities to delight both young and old alike.

Opened on July 1, 1996, the 383-unit Disney's BoardWalk Villas overlooks the festive Disney’s BoardWalk waterfront entertainment district at Walt Disney World.

The property, with its Atlantic Seacoast theme, sits atop a quaint collection of shops, clubs and restaurants overlooking the boardwalk and village green.

The Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, located next to the popular Disney’s Wilderness Lodge at the Walt Disney World Resort, surrounds visitors with the grandeur of the Old West and stories of the people who settled there. Each of the resort’s 136 studio, one- and two-bedroom vacation villas tells the tales of pioneers who built and stayed in late 19th-century railroad hotels in the national parks region of the American West. A unique feature of the resort is its themed living room area that features railroad memorabilia, including a special exhibit on loan from the Disney family of two of Walt Disney’s personal scale-model train cars and a piece of the track.

Recently the Company announced plans to expand its Walt Disney World Resort presence with two more ownership resorts. Development is underway on the mid-Atlantic seacoast-inspired Disney’s Beach Club Villas -- set to debut in Spetember 2002 adjacent to Disney’s Beach Club Resort, and on an as-yet-unnamed project at the award-winning Disney’s Eagle Pines Golf Course.

Prices begin at $155 for Disney's Vero Beach Resort and at $105 for Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort. At Walt Disney World, rates for Disney's Old Key West Resort start at $244 per night; at $279 for Disney's BoardWalk Villas and at $264 for The Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. Reservations can be made by calling (407) W-DISNEY or by contacting a travel professional.
