2003 Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival Celebrates 10 Years of Fantastic Flowers

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Epcot will be abloom with floral displays, flower-power music, topiary creations inspired by a decade of floral fun, and much more April 25-June 8 during the 10th annual Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival at Walt Disney World Resort.

The festival has become known for award-winning displays, seminars by top gardening experts and special weekend activities -- but more than anything else, for whimsical topiaries. "We bring Disney classics to life in a different way," says Tanya Peak Smith, manager of Disney Horticulture Services. "We grow them."

Smith and Disney?s team of "green-thumb experts" are preparing topiaries inspired by favorite creations from years past including popular "Fantasia" characters, spectacular floral flags and stars, and psychedelic blooming butterflies. The festival?s favorite topiary couple -- Mickey and Minnie -- will welcome guests in a display featuring love, art and music represented in a 30-foot artists' palette topiary and a floral musical staff.

Here are some more must-sees and to-do's for flower and garden lovers in 2003:
  • Explore American history at “America’s Timeless Trees,” an all-new display for 2003. See descendents of famous trees, from President George Washington’s Tulip Poplar to Elvis Presley’s Pin Oak, at American Adventure. Also making its debut in 2003: the Disney “Doggone” Maze, an interactive maze for kids featuring fun activities that relate to popular Disney dogs.
  • Discover one-of-a-kind gardening activities and demonstrations in the Festival Center, located in Innoventions West in Future World. Experience a unique garden marketplace, a gallery of garden art, a fun zone with gardening activities just for kids, and take home tips from the country’s top Great American Gardeners.
  • See more than 60,000 colorful bedding plants in the breathtaking floral artistry of “The Power of Flowers” presented by The Flower Fields.
  • Glean gardening tips from garden experts including Roger Swain, former host of PBS’ “Victory Garden;” Paul James, host of HGTV’s “Gardening by the Yard”; and P. Allen Smith, host of “P. Allen Smith Gardens” on The Weather Channel.
  • Budding gardeners can practice their green thumb in the newly themed Kid’s Garden, which will return in 2003 with a new theme along with butterfly and ladybug releases daily.
  • Take a trip down musical memory lane with the ever-popular “Flower Power” concert series featuring popular musical acts from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.
  • Experience spectacular international gardens throughout World Showcase, including the newly designed gardens in Canada, the festival’s biggest orchid display ever at Mexico and bonsai masterpieces at Japan.

Savoring a Sunflower Guests of all ages will be able to enjoy a parade of fantastic flowers during the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival April 25-June 8, 2003. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the festival features award-winning displays, activities for children and the groovy Flower Power concert series showcasing favorite musical acts from the '60s, '70s and '80s.

Thanks for posting these!  Six years ago when we went to WDW it was time for the flower and garden festival, too.  I think I have that exact same picture of Belle and Beast in France! (Only it's not a digital photo, so don't ask to see it! )
