Hey Richard,

Very entertaining story.

Fort Wilderness seemingly has cracked down on the golf carts but you still see kids driving the things at times even though they're supposed to have a driver's license to drive.  Another thing that worries me about the carts is the number of people some folks put in/on them.  I swear I've seen 9 people on one before...babies, young kids, adults...talking about a disaster waiting to happen.

Fort Wilderness also isn't immune to the rude/noisy neighbors.  I think the group rocklandrvers wrote about has camped near me at FW!  This time they had two pop-ups and several tents.  Boom box going, lots of loud talking and laughing...ughhhh.  Inconsiderate people know no bounds.   :buttrock:

Another thing I see that annoys me are the folks that keep their yippie dogs with them in the non-pet loops.  Then they walk them around the little playground areas, so they can poop and pee all over the place.

All in All the doofus ratio is much lower at Fort Wilderness than most other places.

I go nuts when I see kids driving golf carts. I've been in the golf business for 33 years and in that time have seen one golfer die in a cart accident, one golfer paralyzed, and numerous broken legs and ankles. I refuse to let kids drive carts at our course and get just as mad when I see some parent let their kid drive a cart at FW.

I once took the cart key out of a cart after two kids (not over 13 years old) drove a cart on top of the bush (lifting the rear wheel off the ground and getting it stuck) in front of our site.  They yelled and complained and my reply was that they had two options. One was to bring the parents back for the cart and the second was to get WDW security to come back for the cart. No one came back. Site maintenance cast members stopped several times but I wouldn’t let them take the cart either. Finally, about 6 hours later, I called security and they came to get it. Just where are the parents for these kids? If your kids lost a $3500 golf cart, wouldn’t you be a little curious?

I supposed they’re the same parents who can’t read the signs that state ”No pets beyond this point”. I was in the Meadow Trading Post (where my wife works) one night and in comes a guest (who I found out was not staying in a pet loop) carrying her little white dog. I was dumbfounded and was about to make a couple of suggestions to her but my wife requested that I keep quiet.

I obeyed.

BUT STILL… FW is the best campground in the USA.

:coonskin:

I just wanted to add that I have found a few people at FW to be rude....I mean, my yippie little white dog needs to "use the facilities" too! And I don't little "Poochie" to be around all those other dogs on the pet loops! Besides the mulch on the playgrounds is much softer on his paws!!

Of course, I wouldn't DREAM of leaving "Poochie" in the trailer alone, so unless he's riding on the golf cart with my 2 young children, he's with me while I shop!!

By the way, thanks for telling me where that golf cart went!! :eyebrow:

I agree about kids driving golf carts  I have seen this not only at FtW, but at other large campgrounds where we have stayed.  They are not toys, they are miniature cars that can hit close to 20 mph. For their size and weight, thats a pretty fast speed.  If you got hit by one, it would be like getting hit by a car.  Would you let your 12 year old drive your Lexus?  :tounge:

My DS is age 13.  He has a bike, go kart and I have let him drive our golf cart around our yard with me at his side.  I have taken him to a huge deserted lot close to our home and gave him some driving lessons in our truck.

At FtW in May our loop cleared out and was only half occupied so I let him drive around our loop in the rented GC...again with me in the passenger seat.   Even though he is a competant driver, there is no way he is going off on his own in a motorized machine that can kill someone or himself. :talktohand:
