Yoo Hoo, Disney EchoEars!

It's not just Epcot that is getting early closing hours for October's special media event about the opening of Mission: SPACE and Mickey's PhilharMagic.

You might have noticed at disneyworld.com's listing of park hours for October that WDW's Magic Kingdom is going to close at 6 pm on October 8th, the day that Mickey's PhilharMagic premEARS.

I'm all ears, so here's the scoop: word has it that the big media event will be like a movie premEAR with a red carpet ( shades of the Pirates of the Caribbean movie premEAR at Disneyland! ). The special Guests that night will also see the debut of the Magic Kingdom's new "Wishes" fireworks show!

All I've heard so far is that it is supposed to be like Disneyland's current "Believe" fireworks show, only better!

That's what I heard too............the fireworks going off in a long, horizontal stage instead of the more vertical show WDW has now.

What is a "soft opening"?  We are staying Sept 28 - Oct 5 and will miss the official opening.  Will we still be able to see it earlier?

Yoo Hoo, sleeping beauty!

"Soft opening" is Disney's way of putting it when an attraction is open to Guests but (until recently) not announced. It is also a time when they might still be making tweaks/fixes to the show or ride elements, and it might even break down in need of adjustment during this time.

Of course, even attractions that have been open for years may break down while you're in them sometimes!

I would think you'll be able to see it during its soft opening. The Annual Passholder preview has been announced for September 20-21 so Disney expects there to be no problems by then.

Maybe I'll see you there! I'm going for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party on Friday night, October 3rd, and I'm checking into the Polynesian Resort on the 2nd.

Jim Hill writes that Disney Imagineering officials are reportedly not all that enthusiastic with how the CG versions of various Disney characters for "Mickey's Philharmagic" turned out.

From the August 2003 Mickey Monitor

You can't keep a good duck down at Mickey's PhilharMagic

Our favorite Mouse may be the star conductor of Mickey's PhilharMagic, but it's Donald Duck who'll end up taking you on a fantastic journey.

Opening this October, the new Magic Kingdom attraction will send you and the flustered fowl through a smorgasbord of Disney musical moments, from Peter Pan's London flight and Simba's savannah frolics to dinnertime at the Beast's castle and playtime with Ariel under the sea. It's pure Disney magic you'll love to experience again and again.

An entirely new 3-D experience
The new immersive 3-D technology that flies you from classic to classic is so astonishing, a new word was invented to describe it: "DisneyVision."

"It's the most ambitious 3-D adventure ever created," Kevin Rafferty, Senior Show Writer for Walt Disney Imagineering tells us. "The screen is so big, the theater seems to magically 'disappear' and pull you into this musical 'vortex' with Donald."

At 25 feet high by 100 feet wide, the seamless, wrap-around DisneyVision screen is the largest of it's kind. You'll feel as if you're right there with your animated friends.

In-theater effects keep you giggling
New in-theater special effects also draw you into the show. "Mickey's PhilharMagic was created for the entire family to enjoy, especially young children," Kevin adds. "We have what we call 'reach moments,' in which Disney friends appear in front of you as if you could touch them."

Mickey and his orchestra come full circle
Many passholders fondly remember the beloved Mickey Mouse Revue, originally presented in the same Fantasyland theater three decades ago. This Audio-Animatronics musical also starred Mickey as conductor.

"I'd like to think of Mickey's PhilharMagic as the next generation of the Mickey Mouse Revue," Kevin comments. "So many of the characters are back again, but using entirely new technology," he says.

Regardless of all the bells and whistles, timeless Disney music and fantasy are at the heart of Mickey's PhilharMagic. "It's exactly the sort of thing our Guests love," Kevin adds. "And what we love."

Passholder Pin Alert!
An exclusive Mickey's PhilharMagic pin will be available to all Passholders at Town Square Exposition Hall in the Magic Kingdom Park beginning September 20 for just $10.50 (plus tax). Quantities will be limited.

Mickey's PhilharMagic Sneak Preview

Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21

As an Annual or Premium Annual Passholder, you're invited to be among the first to experience Mickey's PhilharMagic before its Grand Opening in October. During regular Magic Kingdom hours on September 20 and 21. stop by the Fantasyland Concert Hall entrance, show your valid Passholder I.D. and you're off on a flight of fantasy! The new merchandise shop next door will be offering new items based on the show, too.

Valid Annual or Premium Annual Passholder I.D. is required for entrance into the attraction.
