Walt Disney died of lung cancer December 15, 1966 at the age of 65 years.  Monday December 15, 2003 marks the 37th anniversary of that sad event.

Mr. Disney, you are fondly remembered and sadly missed.  It's a shame no one in your family is part of the Company you and your brother founded any more, but it's not for lack of trying.  Your daughter Diane created a wonderful documentary about your life which is also a book and now a home video (Walt Disney:  The Man Behind the Myth) and the Company actually did celebrate the anniversary of the premiere of "Steamboat Willie" and Mickey Mouse on November 18th.  Walt Disney World continues to show memorabilia of your creative career at Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park in a special exhibit.  Your fans still remember and admire you, as do your many collaborators and talented performers and artists who you discovered and worked with your studio.  Despite some weaknesses and flaws today in the Company you founded, you are remembered and honored on your birthday and the day you left us.  Rest in peace, Walt, and again, thanks for the memories and the many products of your creativity which live on today.

His legacy will live on in the hearts and lives of those who remember him, and those of us who lives are firmly inspired by many of the things which he did. And while much surrounding his beloved company is in turmoil, I cannot help but believe that the heart and soil of what he envisioned still exists in most of the everyday cast member, who goes to work still looking forward to that one smile on that childs face, or the one laugh from a grown-up that makes the rough day just a little bit more worthwhile.
Here's to ya Walt - I only wish I could've met ya'. Rest in peace, and may tomorrow bring a better day for the "House that Walt built".
