:birthdaycake: Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy 102nd birthday Walt Disney!  Happy birthday to you!   :birthdaycake:

Dear Walt, Bob Hope passed away this year and his theme song was "Thanks for the memories."  Walt, thanks for the memories of years of animated and live action movies, your Sunday night TV show and of course Disneyland and the promise of your "EPCOT" still on the drawing boards at the time of your death.  There hasn't been anyone quite like you before your lifetime, during your lifetime or since your death.  You had the muse.  What a privilege it is your work is still around, largely unaltered, for generations to still enjoy.  I hope you and your brother Roy, wife Lillian, daughter Sharon, and the colleagues at Disney animation and Imagineering and "WED Enterprises" will send down good thoughts on the company your founded, fans of it and those who work for it, so that whatever your creative vision for it all was gets rediscovered and adapated to the modern day and can live on for future generations to enjoy.  Happy birthday Walt, and thank you again for all you, your brother, and those you worked with did over all the years to entertain our parents, us and now our own kids.

Happy birthday, Walt!

It is fitting to post this again, in honor of Walt Disney's birthday:

The "Disney Anthem": Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy and the GangHere's the background to when I first heard this song. It was the night of Saturday, September 26, 1992, when I was at Walt Disney World on the last night of the 1st Official Disneyana Convention. The occasion was the closing banquet of the convention and all of us Disneyana ConventionEars were in the Fantasia Ballroom of Disney's Contemporary Resort Convention Center.

One part of that night's entertainment will always have a special place in my memory. The Disney folks showed us a sweet and touching film which had stills and footage from Walt's life and work, accompanied by the wonderful song many of you might have heard which is an ode to Walt Disney. Dick Nunis said this is the "Company Song," played only at internal Company gatherings and stockholders' meetings, until that evening. Nunis told us the conference was so successful that he considered Disney enthusiasts and collectors in attendance part of the Disney family, and so having a performance of this song for us would be appropriate. Since then they also presented it for the ConventionEars at the 1994 Official Disneyana Conventions and it was later performed by Paul Williams on the Mouseketeers Reunion TV show (which used to be seen in reruns occasionally on the Disney Channel). However, Paul didn't sing all of the lyrics that Dick Nunis sang for us in September 1994.

Dick said it was written by an unknown Cast Member and they wished they knew who that was so they could give him or her credit for it. It is sung like an anthem/ballad, slow affectionate tempo and tone. Get the hankies out, because I'm going to share the lyrics of the song with you now.

Late one rainy night
down in Missouri
huddled in his tiny room
an artist drew impressions
by glowing candlelight
of a friendly little creature
who had come to share his night.

How was he to know the destiny
guided by his moving hand?
He created someone
who'd be loved across the land.
The first of many faces
that his gifted hand would draw.

Mickey Mouse,
Donald Duck,
Goofy and the gang.
Your father was a friend of mine
though he never knew my name.

He painted colored fairy tales
with a stroke of his magic brush
and brought to life the characters
we've grown to love so much.

He made it all so beautiful
in the world of Disneyland.
Mickey Mouse, (Mickey Mouse)
Donald Duck, (Donald Duck)
You've made a lot of friends.

Heaven must have come his way one night
and filled his mind with magic dreams.
He built a land of paradise
with so much love and care
and left it all behind him
for everyone to share.

Mickey Mouse,
Donald Duck,
Goofy and the gang.
Your father was a friend of mine
though he never knew my name.

He painted colored fairy tales
with a stroke of his magic brush
and brought to life the characters
we've grown to love so much.

He made it all so beautiful
in the world of Disneyland.
Mickey Mouse, (Mickey Mouse)
Donald Duck, (Donald Duck)
You've made a lot of friends,
A lot of friends.
