Disney offers active military personnel free admission and cruise discounts

The Orange County Register

ANAHEIM Lt. Roy Ferreira of Placentia just spent several months aboard an aircraft carrier patrolling the Persian Gulf. But given the right offer, the Navy officer just might climb back on board a ship.

"It would be kind of nice to get on a ship and not have to work," Ferreira said after hearing about offers from the Walt Disney Co. for active military personnel to take a cruise or visit theme parks.

Disney announced its "Armed Forces Salute" on Monday, honoring U.S. service personnel with offers of a free three-day admission to Disney's U.S. theme parks. The offer is good through Dec. 19, with additional discounts for family and friends.

The armed-forces offer is good at the Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, and June 19 to Dec. 18 on Disney Cruise Line. Active U.S. military personnel are eligible, including active members of the Coast Guard and activated members of the National Guard or Reserves. Each active-duty military member can receive one complimentary 3-day pass and may purchase companion tickets for up to five family members or friends for $39 each.

Cruise Line discounts apply to select sailings to the Caribbean and the Bahamas. Ferreira, 27, was the tactical action officer in the USS Abraham Lincoln's Operations and Combat Direction Center. He arrived home last month to visit family and now is stationed in Miami. He's one of many military personnel Disney plans to recognize as part of its "tradition of supporting the armed forces."

"We believe this offer will allow our troops to create some magical memories with their friends and family," said Jay Rasulo, president of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.
