HI and WELCOME to the DisneyEcho's Disabilities/Special Needs Forum.

My name is Kelly D. and I will be your host, guide, moderator in this forum.A little about me. Outside of my relationship with God, my two passions in life are anything Disney and working with people with disabilities and/or special needs. I have lived in Orlando for three years.I am going on my fourth season volunteering with the local wheelchair basketball team....Orlando Magic Wheels.

How this board got started... As I was looking at the forums on Disney Echo, I realized that there was no area for people to ask their disabilities/special needs questions as they relate to Disney :)...so I asked Rich about it and this is how the forum was born :)

I look forward to getting to know you guys and helping all people plan and go on trips to WDW (esp) :)

I'd like to thank Kelly D. / dizneluver9 for suggesting that we have this forum on the Disney Echo and for voluntEARing to be the modEARator of it.
:clapping:

Here in this message forum you'll find information and advice for people with disabilities/special needs and help in addressing any issues they might have while vacationing at Disney theme parks.

Thank you Kelly and Rich -

My family is going on our first vacation where wheelchair accessibility is required. I have secondary progressive MS (multiple sclerosis) and have been w/c dependent for a year now. We've been to WDW and DL before, but never like this. Luckily, I have a wonderful family (DH, 3 DDs - 15, 15, 11) who are very helpful and supportive; not only with my physical illness but my addiction to Disney.

Thanks to Tikiman's website (thank you Steve), we are going to the Poly this time. The CMs there were very helpful. We are booked into Rapa Niui Nov. 2-8. There are roll in showers, grab bars near the toilet and a free fridge for my medication. The pool has a zero entry and a waterproof w/c for guests to use. WOW! I haven't been in a pool in a couple of years.

Mears has transportation from the airport with vans with w/c lifts that are for individual families with a w/c. No waiting for the shuttle to fill up and no other stops. They meet you at baggage claim.

We are looking forward to a carefree, accessible, magical vacation. I'll post details on the Poly, Mears and the parks when we return. Only 26 days to go!

Thanks
Sue :happydance:

hey Sue

Sorry to hear about your MS but glad you coming to WDW to make some memories with your family.

I HIGHLY reccommend that you get a Guest Assistance Pass from Guest Services. One pass should do it for all parks but stopping by Guest Services the first time you enter a park will assure that you will have smooth service when you go on rides :) It will help decrease your wait times in line ( your entire group will be able to go with you) and will allow you to take your mobility asstance device in line with you. Get a note from your doctor to show guest services and you should be good to go.

I wish you well and PM me if you want my phone number. I live in Orlando and God forbid something happens I am here for ya :)

Have a GREAT time!

I am going to WDW in 23 days.  I will be going down alone with my 4 year old daughter.  I have add with this I suffer from severe memory loss and get confused and overwhelmed easy.  I have been to WDW many times including once alone but this is my first trip with my daughter and my first trip since my symptoms worsened.  I was wondering how to approach my upcoming trip.  I'm very worried about losing and forgetting things (I do both quite often).  I also worry about not understand something important.
Please Help!

I just wanted to let everybody know that I am going to work with Laura via PM on how to help her with this situation. I think I am going to be able to help her personally :) When we get things figured out we'll let you know what happens :)
