Hi all ~
Not sure if anyone watches the Travel Channel now and then but I've seen the shows on Disney a couple of times during different months (including resorts) and I have yet to see the woman mention the Polynesian  Seems the same two resorts, Grand Floridian and Animal Kingdom are shown. Have I missed one? I can see how the AK gets mentioned alot since its so huge and probably more family oriented.

Just curious

:unhappy:

Minnie,
Samantha Brown has been to The Grand Floridian, AK Lodge, Wilderness Lodge and Yacht and Beach Club that I know of... haven't seen any reference for a show about the Poly...
This is the link to the Travel Channel Website...

Here's what Samantha Brown herself wrote on 11/13/02 in the Travel Channel's online forum:

There's always plenty to do at Disneyworld. Don't know if I would want to do the Polynesian. After spending so much time in beautiful Hawaii it would be hard to accept the man made version.

According to another post on that GH board, Samantha Brown was going back to WDW to film a special of Christmas at WDW the post was dated in April of this year... anybody got the TC know anything about it actually happening?

That Christmas Disney show was on the other night. Looks amazing there during the holidays!!  :Oo:  What a parade! I'm sure it will be on again once or twice before Christmas.

My husband and I watch the show and now we are debating on whether to go during the holidays next year because it looked amazing.  Does anyone know what special things they do at the poly during the holidays?? :santa:

Yes! Tikiman has some pictures on his website here which includes the gingerbread longhouse with a Hawaiian Santa and elves.

LaughingPlace has more Polynesian Resort Christmas pictures as well.

Well I agree the Polynesian is overlooked in everything including the WDW videos but I had to post a message to Samantha Brown. I don't know if she will read it or respond but we shal see.

Samantha,

Well my wife and I have enjoyed your show very much and have been to many of the hotels you have. We live in Sonoma County (Wine country) California and we have stayed in most of the hotels you have in San Francisco. We also own property in Maui and visit the islands often. I study Polynesian culture and also travel to Disneyland and Disney World just about every year. We spend our 4th of July’s at the Polynesian in WDW. I read that you do not care for the Polynesian and would not want to visit it because of your travels to Hawaii. Well I would never expect everyone to like the Polynesian the way I do and that is ok but I think you are making the mistake many do which is looking at the Polynesian as a fake man made version of Hawaii. Well I know many who have been to Hawaii and some that live there who think the Polynesian is the best representation of Polynesian (not just Hawaii) culture on the main land. The research and devotion to authentic design alone deserves a look from you and the travel channel. Why would a resort with so much and the highest repeat guests in WDW alone with many years of being the #1 destination out of the WDW resorts for Honeymoons be ignored buy such a respected source of travel information? I could go on and on about the history of the Polynesian and talk about the staff from the Kaanapali Beach Hotel coming over to give them help with their decore but you may not be interested in all the details if you are not interested in the resort. The resort has left a lasting impression on me and my family as well as many others.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and we will continue to enjoy your show.

If you are interested in more info I have taken the time to create a web page with photos and history as well as current information on the Polynesian resort. I think if you read it you will be surprised by what went into the creation of the resort from Walts own ideas to what it is now.

Aloha

Steve

Excellent post, Steve! I hope they change their mind and do a show about the Polynesian Resort soon.

Thanks Rich but I would not hold your breath.

I guess it just upsets me that the Polynesian does such a great job and gets overlooked. We have stayed in many of the hotels shown on "Great Hotels" and some of them don't even live up to the detail or cleanliness of the Polynesian. In fact we were just at the W in San Francisco and the Westin St. Francis which is a World class hotel that everyone from US Presidents to the Queen of England have stayed in and we had an upgraded room which had a horrible view, was small and the bathroom was dirty with cracked tile. Now if the Polynesian room looked half as bad as that room did you would see a big long post about how the Polynesian is run down and old but no one ever says these world class hotels are worn down and old. We have many favorite resorts and hotels. The Polynesian is only one of them but it seems to be the one that gets beat on the most. One small or two small things go wrong and than you hear how horrible the place is. Well everyone is free to stay where they like but I will be happy to return to the Polynesian even if the water is not out or I get a rude CM or if there is part of a tree in my view or there were no towel animals. I go because it is a great place to relax and enjoy. I keep trying other resorts in WDW and they are nice but no replacement for me.

Aloha

Steve
