The Poly- how do I describe it?  On a scale of 1-10 for Disney Resorts- granted I've only stayed at AKL and OKW- Poly would rate an upper 8 with AKL being a 7 and OKW being a 5.

What we LOVED.....

1. The lush gardens- I was in green thumb heaven- and all the greenery made it seem cooler than Grand Floridian when we visited there.

2. Spacious rooms- with three munchkins- the extra space made for a very enjoyable stay in our room.  And above all our room (1905) Tokelau was non-smell/non-smoking- the view was not great- faced directly out to the brown fences where construction work was going on with Tahiti?  But we're not ones to sit on the patio- so that was peachy with us- we pretty much just use the rooms to lay our head down for sleep! :sleepy:

3. LOVED the Volcano slide and pool- had to do a daily visit there- all three kids did the slide and LOVED it (ages 4,5,8)- also very nice of them to have safety vests for the younger ones to wear.

4. OUTSTANDING transportation- we are Magic Kingdom type of folks- loved taking the ferry to MK and walking from TTC to the Poly- a very short walk and nice on star filled evenings.

5. CM's were very nice and most were extremely accomodating.

6. Room service was top notch and tasty.

What could have been improved....

1. Only one in our opinion- the PILLOWS!  and/or maybe the beds.  But the pillows were plentiful- they had feather pillows and foam pillows but both had no spring to them- it was like using a futon to rest your head on.  I didn't think to ask if they had any other kind- since our room had 8 pillows in it and none of them were comfortable.  And I kept thinking I'd hit that perfect one if I kept switching them around- alas- this princess never had more than 2 hours of straight sleep- next time I'll bring my own- but I don't remember having that problem at AKL or OKW.

We didn't have any towel animals- but our room was very nicely cleaned daily and we were very pleased.  I had bought a set of 6 princess Christmas ornaments that come in a nice box- my girls wanted to play with them of course.  One morning we were rushing out to get to an early character breakfast and I saw them lying on the floor- I should have put them on the table but picked them up and placed them on the bed.  When we returned we found Cinderella had been beheaded- OOPS!!!  I guessed they must have thrown the covers back and accidentally stepped on her.  I called down front to see if we could get a replacement- and they were more than nice- they credited us back the entire cost of our purchases we made from that store.  And told us to go buy a complete new set- I tried to tell them I was more than happy to just switch the broken one for a whole one- but they wouldn't have it- I thought that was FAR ABOVE AND BEYOND and very kind- it went a long way in putting the smiles back on my girls who were in despair over Cinderella's predicament.

We are torn now- because we're planning a trip back in Jan/2005 so I can walk the 1/2 marathon- I'm afraid if we stay anywhere else the kids will want to be at the Poly instead- thanks everyone for making this a great vacation!!

ALOHA!

Aloha Tara,

Thanks for the report. So didn't your view look toward the east pool or was the wall around Hawaii out that far?

Aloha

The wall went about 2 rooms past ours towards the pool- our room had the view of where the fence opened- it was open quite a bit so our view was mostly of debris and workers coming in and out- but honestly we NEVER spend much time on the balcony and leave the room at 7am and return 30 minutes before bedtime so it was not an issue.  The room was IDEAL in that it was very neat, no smell whatsoever, only five doors down from the lobby and very clean- except for an old moldy strawberry in the closet- can't figure out how it got there!

My 4 year old said very sweetly today, "Mommy, I want my old room back- why can't we live at Disneyworld!"  It was too sweet.  And I LOVED the location of Tokelau as well- very close to everything.

So you liked being on the ground level? I use to be a huge fan of being on the highest floor but since the Polynesian is only 3 floors you don't get that high anyway and I love the open patio. I get a little upset when people who have had moisture problems in their room blame it on ground level rooms. I have never had a problem in a ground level room so not all have problems. We were on a 3rd floor in Maui and it was great but everyone on the first floor could hang out on the patio and walk out to the grass (just like at the Polynesian) and it just seems so much nicer.

Aloha

The feather pillows are standard at the Polynesian. I know because among other things my son is allergic to feathers and down, so I always request that they swap out those feather pillows for standard ones.

Next time (and I hope you do come in January), put down on your reservation "No feather pillows" and see how you like the kind they provide you with then. We had no problems with the replacement pillows and had a very comfortable sleep each night.

And no matter what problem you have, please let the folks at the Polynesian Guest Services or Mousekeeping know right then. Even if they go ahead and have non-feather pillows in your room when you arrive be sure to try them out. They might have more comfortable one which they'd be happy to provide you with during your stay.

Great trip report, Tara! Mahalo for posting it!

I really loved being on the ground floor- and for one reason mainly- WE'RE SOOO DOG TIRED after spending 10 hours in the parks that not having to wait for/in the elevator is a heaven send.  And our munchkins always fight over whose turn it is to punch the buttons- that's the last thing Dad and I want to remember after a loaded day! :)

And we will check on the pillows- we had 3 non-feather pillows in the room- but all three of those were very dense and hard- I think I've spoiled us with very springy type pillows!
:)

On an aside- two days after returning from Disney- we all came down with croup/stomach flu- (Disney had a warning about equine encephalitis) and when my 5 year old cried about her head hurting- I of course had to see the doc- he said just typical virus- but he wanted to hear all about our stay at the Poly because they're going there in 2 weeks!   What a treat to share the trip all over again and find out your child has not contracted a life threatining mosquito borne illness! :)  And I am sooo thrilled we didn't get sick until after we returned!! :)

I'm so happy you had a good trip but I'm sorry you all got sick.

Hey, be sure and call the doctor's office back and leave a message with the receptionist/nurse to tell the doctor to check out the Disney Echo before his trip!

:wwww:
