Yoo Hoo, TheSus!

Gosh! I hope not. I haven't heard any rumor like that, so I hope it is not true. Did you hear of any reason why Wayne Allwine would not be doing Mickey's voice, according to what you heard?

Thanks for passing that along, TheSus, but I really hope the rumor is off base. No offense, of course! In fact, since that was your first post here on the Disney Echo, I have your own pair of EchoEars for you right here:

Now that you've got your "ears", let us know if you hear anything else about this rumor, okay?
:)

Hey Rich...maybe you'll know more history on all the voices for Mickey!  I know that Mr. Disney was the original voice.  Who was next, etc, all the way to Wayne and when did Wayne start as Mickey's voice?

I heard about the new voice for Mickey thing with my own "mouse ears" from a vo class I took! A person in the class is currently "doing voices" with Disney and had some inside scoop...

The reason I am interested in this issue is that for the last 2 years I have been working and perfecting my Mickey voice and wouldn't want to miss out on the opportunity to five it a shot...

Gee, you're swell for responding!

Sus, Jimmy McDonald was the second voice of Mickey. He did the voice from the late 40s until he retired sometime in the 70s or 80s, when presumably, Wayne took over.

Yoo Hoo!

According to Disney's website, in all, there are 120 Mickey Mouse cartoons, with a 30-year gap between "The Simple Things" (1953) and "Mickey's Christmas Carol" (1983). He starred in the "Mickey Mouse Club" television show in the 1950s, has appeared on thousands of merchandise items, and today continues to act as chief greeter at the Disney Theme Parks.

Walt Disney provided Mickey Mouse's voice up to 1946, when Jim Macdonald took over until his retirement three decades later. The current voice is Wayne Allwine.

Disney's website didn't list anyone else has having provided Mickey's voice and I don't think anyone else did. I attended an interview of Wayne Allwine at Disney's Official Disneyana Convention in which Wayne said that Jimmy Macdonald was taught by Walt and that Wayne felt very honored to have been given tips on how to do Mickey's voice by Jimmy Macdonald, so that he was only one person away from having been taught by Walt himself. After Wayne took over for Jimmy, no one else has done Mickey's voice - - so that is why I think only those 3 people have officially been Mickey's voice.

Walt always had a fond place in his heart for Mickey and often said "I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing: that it was all started by a mouse."

Mickey Mouse was originally drawn using circles for head, body, and ears. "The Pointer," in 1939, was the first cartoon that featured a drastically new design for Mickey. His body became more pear-shaped than round, and pupils were added to his eyes, making them more expressive. In the early forties, animators gave him perspective ears -- shadowing them to give a three-dimensional effect -- but this change was short-lived. Later changes consisted mainly of costume updates, taking him out of his red shorts, for instance, and putting him in more contemporary clothes. Favorite sayings: "Gosh!" "Oh boy!" "That sure is swell!" "Aw, gee..." "Seeya real soon!"

Yoo Hoo!

I just got off the phone with the folks at Disney Character Voices and here's the news, straight from The Mouse: There are no plans to replace Wayne and the rumor is not true at all.

Whew!

Yoo Hoo, TheSus!

Yeah! Keep on trying and never give up on your Disney dreams!!

You never know, one day they might even want to have Mickey's cousin in a cartoon, and you might be perfect for it!
