Yoo Hoo, Disney EchoEars!

JimHillMedia.com has a very interesting rumor of changes coming to Epcot's Future World, complete with a rendering of Walt Disney Imagineering's plan of that land (scroll down below this text to see it).

Read all about it here

Plans include:
  • A bold new look. WDI plans to do this by changing the look from the sterile, beige "Future as designed by Republicans" original concept, tearing out much of the neon and the expanses of concrete that make up the heart of this part of the Park and instead going for a lush, green look with hundreds and hundreds of trees.
  • The entry plaza would be changed to direct you to the right of the geodesic sphere as you enter. Why? Guests would no longer able to walk under the left side of Spaceship Earth because that area will be all enclosed. It will be the pre-show / queue area for the new "Time Racers" attraction inside the giant golf ball. More retail space would be provided to an expanded Gateway Gifts as well. "Time Racers," is projected to be Epcot's latest and greatest thrill ride (opening October 2006), sponsored by Microsoft.
  • "Rainforest Rollercoaster," an inverted coaster to be installed outside the entrance to "The Land" pavilion. It will take Guests on a fast, fun and informative trip through the canopy of a simulated rainforest.
  • "Soarin" would be two giant Omni-max theaters similar to the "Soarin' Over California" attraction at Disney's California Adventure, except Epcot's version would take Discoveryland visitors soarin' over some of the Earth's more intriguing terrain. Think of it as flying over World Showcase.
  • A hedge maze in the southwestern corner of Discoveryland (between "The Land" and the "Imagination" pavilion) where Guests would wander through and stumble upon various educational exhibits as they try to find the exit.
  • "Living Seas" revamped to show the Characters from "The Little Mermaid." Ariel, King Triton and Sebastian would be your hosts in this revamped "Under the Sea" pavilion, showing how we must all learn to live in harmony with the world's oceans ... or risk destroying this precious resource forever.
  • Next to the GM "Test Track," Imagineers want to bring back an old Disneyland favorite: the Jr. Autopia. Guests who are too young and/or too short to ride "Test Track" could enjoy this while Mom, Dad, and big brother / sister are getting tossed around like test dummies.
  • Attention fans of "Cranium Command" and "Body Wars": Imagineers are reportedly thinking about shutting down this entire "Wonders of Life" pavilion (previously sponsored by Metropolitan Life) and using this space for "Future Expansion."
  • Innoventions East and West would lose the roofs and become six separate smaller buildings made from those old Communicore buildings, to allow for more landscaping.
  • The old Innoventions East area would be made up of:
    • "Leading Edge" (exhibits of the latest, greatest scientific breakthroughs)
    • "Robot Restaurant" ("Battle Bots"-like shows while you munch on burgers and fries)
    • "Future Mart" (buy a wide variety of Epcot- and Disney-related merchandise here like when it was "The Centorium" and "Mouse Gear")

  • The old Innoventions West area would be made up of:
    • "Home of the Future" (the new home for most of the AA figures from the soon-to-be-closing "Carousel of Progress" show over at WDW's Magic Kingdom)
    • Internet Café (eat while checking your email)
    • "Cool Stuff" (the latest in cool consumers products.)

Sound good? It sure does to me! But Jim Hill reports that so far the only thing preventing "Project Gemini" from getting an official greenlight is -- of course, what a surprise -- money. Let's hope Jay Rasulo (the new President of Disney Parks and Resorts) convinces Disney CEO Michael Eisner to go forward with "Project Gemini!"

Once again, read the complete details here

Wow!  :wow:

I had heard about some of this, but all of it sounds great! Except for the part about closing Wonders of Life.

I just read a rumor that in 2005 Spaceship Earth would be closed and then gutted out!!!  What would replace the inside?  I love that ride and we usually do it numerous times each trip.  Does anyone know anything about this? :help:

I did read about this on WDWMAGIC.com It is said to be part of Project Gemini.  Again, just rumors I thought maybe you would want to review the article yourself.

Yes, we've had the news about the proposed project here since February. No construction on Spaceship Earth's rehab has started yet, although construction trailers are next to The Land apparently getting ready to build Soarin'.

So it's official? They'll eventually be doing the Spaceship Earth rehab?

Not that I've heard, but I agree with you that the last rehab of it didn't go far enough and it still needs work, although it is better than version 2 was.
