Disney and NTT East and NTT West To Launch Broadband Services in Japan
Companies Will Establish a New Broadband Service "DisneyBB on FLET'S''
NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. --July 15, 2003 -- Walt Disney Company Japan Ltd. (WDC), Nippon Telegraph and Telephone East Corporation (NTT East) and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone West Corporation (NTT West) have signed an agreement to jointly provide Disney-branded broadband services through the broadband environment provided by NTT East and West.
"DisneyBB on FLET'S" will launch July 22 for the 3.5 million users of "FLET'S ('B FLET'S' and 'FLET'S ADSL')", a high-quality broadband access service provided by NTT East and NTT West. "DisneyBB on FLET'S" is an interactive online content service, exclusively available via a broadband connection, through which children and their parents can experience a broad range of media-rich Disney entertainment and learning activities in a safe environment. Its programming, based on both classic and new Disney characters, will be split into four distinct sections -- Watch, Play, Learn and Listen -- each of which takes advantage of the benefits of broadband technology to deliver quality online programming to the consumer.
Consumers will also have the option to subscribe for access to premium content through "DisneyBB on FLET'S." The first of these paid premium offerings will be "Disney Wonderland," a learning service for broadband users which targets families with children between 3 and 6 years old. Created by D Wonderland, a Disney licensee, this rich media service offers games and activities, specially designed to nurture children's curiosity and develop new skills such as reading and counting.
"Japan is one of the most advanced and rapidly growing broadband markets in the world, and we're very pleased to work with NTT East and NTT West to make this high-quality broadband content available to Japanese consumers," said Mark Handler, executive vice president and managing director, International, Walt Disney Internet Group, the division which creates online content for The Walt Disney Company. "DisneyBB on FLET'S will aggregate online and offline content, including video, rich graphics and music, from many of the different divisions of The Walt Disney Company. It allows us to begin to realize the promise of broadband entertainment and will demonstrate the unique qualities of entertainment content developed specifically for broadband."
"Disney BB on FLET'S" will feature a wide selection of regularly refreshed broadband programming, including: animated shorts, interviews, sneak previews and behind-the-scenes footage from Disney films; a wide range of games, including educational games and activities with a strong emphasis on younger kids and families; and, music from classic films and new Disney releases.
