Yoo Hoo, Disney EchoEars!
Michael's broadcast on Radio Disney went great! We're very proud of Michael at how well he did. The luck (blessing?) of happening to get through to Radio Disney that afternoon when we've never been able to get through on the phone before, and then having him picked for this honor (after all, only 365 kids a year get picked to do this, so the odds of getting through on the phone and getting picked are very high!), was very much appreciated.
We were also blessed with very good weather for his debut: great radio reception and no thunderstorms in the area (which makes crackles on the AM band). We live 65 miles away from the closest Radio Disney affiliate and so their signal is never strong enough to hear it well inside the house, but it was coming in loud and clear in my car so I parked it in our driveway and used a camcorder to record the car radio while Michael and B.B. Good (the Radio Disney hostess for the Playhouse Disney midday segment) were on the air. Michael was in kindergarten at the time it aired, but he got to hear the tape I made of it when he got home from school that afternoon.
Radio Disney used to simulcast on the internet but stopped this year, as did a lot of other radio stations, because a copyright and compensation issue with the radio commercial artists' union hasn't been resolved yet over retransmission rights of radio broadcasts over the internet. But, if you ever want to see what station near you broadcasts Radio Disney then go to www.radiodisney.com and use their handy city locator for Radio Disney affiliate stations. We've used that locator guide in the past before going on long car trips to see if any Radio Disney station would be within listening range while we were travelling.
I'm trying to take the audio from the tape I made and input it into the computer to create a soundfile which I could put on the Disney Echo so all of our friends can hear Michael on Radio Disney. I'll be sure to spread the word if I'm successful in doing that!
I think it's great that there is a radio station for kids like Radio Disney and that their DJ's do things for the kids like they did for Michael. And though other dayparts of Radio Disney's programming schedule are geared to older kids (although their target audience is under 13), B.B. Good's shift is geared to kids around Michael's age and younger (especially the Playhouse Disney segment which airs from 12 noon to 2 pm Eastern time). So if you'd like to tune in when Radio Disney sounds the cutest and plays the most Disney music (and has no Britney Spears or boy bands!), give it a listen at that time of day. B.B. Good broadcasts from the D-MGM Studios at WDW and the afternoon drive-time DJs broadcast from Disneyland. Both of the shows are viewable by park guests.
Michael was thrilled by this and listening to the tape I've made of it always makes all of us beam with joy!
