Yoo Hoo, Disney EchoEars!
Let's post our own opinions and reviews of the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie to share with our fellow Disney EchoEars!
I'll start things off - - but here's my tip about posting: If you keep things vague enough that you're not including spoilers, let people know at the top of your reply that it is safe to read your review before seeing the movie - - but if you include spoilers, then warn folks about that.
Okay, here I go! It is safe for everyone to read this review, whether they've seen the movie or not.
I saw the first screening at a local theater this afternoon - - it was sold out! I was inside the theater 10 minutes before the scheduled start of the movie and took the best seat I could find at the time: middle of the theater (great! but fourth row (thought not so great at the time I sat down).
Well, the seat felt great, reclined, and even though I was so close I didn't get a crook in my neck or anything. Actually, it was like watching an IMAX version of it, but without the extra viewing area at the top and bottom.
I LOVE THIS PIRATES MOVIE!!! Sorry for shouting, but it is hard to express in text alone how great a time I had watching it. Every single minute of the movie I had a huge smile on my face. It was sooooo much fun! I saw the Hidden Mickey, and I think I caught all the references to the PotC attraction mentioned on the internet before the movie officially opened. I didn't try and read reviews of it before seeing it, though, because I wanted to be continually surprised in the movie. Not only was I surprised, and engrossed in the Pirate world, but I was continually delighted. I will not give anything away about the plot, though, because just like I didn't want anything spoiled by reading reviews of it, I don't want to spoil it for any of you. But I WILL stress that you go see the movie and I don't think you'll be disappointed (and I hope you'll be as delighted as I am with it).
Although, I'll condense the plot into one sentence, which won't give anything away: Sometimes with really bad eggs you can parlay it into a great omelette. Okay, so my cooking analogy isn't the best...

That being said, I will not be bringing my 7 1/2 year old son to see it. He still closes his eyes during the FL version of PotC, so I know this version would be too thrilling for him. I'll make sure we get the DVD when it comes out so it will be waiting for him when he's reading to see it when he's older.
Also, when the movie's closing credits appear, DO NOT LEAVE! Even though they go on and on (and it seems like they last for over 5 minutes, easy) wait for a special little treat when the last of the credits have rolled. In the theater I went to, the cleaning crew started coming in about 2 minutes into the credits, even wanting to get past me as I sat in my row (to which I politely let them know that the movie hadn't ended yet...). When the special treat at the end came up, they stopped cleaning (since this was the first show, they might not have seen any special showing of it ahead of time) and things quieted down as they watched, too. When it the ending bit was finished, I announced, "NOW it's over!", stood up and left the theater happily.
