Ok, we are going to the Polynesian Nov 15-25 and as I understand it turndown service is available to all guest at the Polynesian. Who does the turndown service? Will it be the same mousekeeper that cleans the room? We always tip mousekeeping, should the turndown service be tipped and if so should it be seperately?

thanks!!

The one night we happened to be in the room when the turndown attendant showed up, it wasn't the same lady that did the regular daily cleaning.  We were wondering if they needed to be tipped too, but considering she was only in the room for a few minutes, we decided it wasn't necessary...hope that was proper.

I left a seperate tip for turndown each day.  I think about $1 per bed.  In addition to turning down the bed covers and leaving chocolates, they also empty the trash and leave clean towels.

I kind of wondered if they weren't used to being tipped, because I left a tip for turndown service and it was not picked up twice.  Finally, we were in the room when the CM came, so I gave her the envelope (specially made for our mousekeepers at the Poly with "Mahalo!" on them) and from then on, the tip was found.  I also left a note on the envelope the next night just in case it was a different CM.  It is proper to tip them.  We always had plenty of towels because of that extra service, so it was very nice.  And since it isn't always the same person who does both your morning and turndown service, there does need to be a separate tip.

Turndown service is automatic in concierge, I understand, but I believe I've read on here that you need to request it for standard rooms.

Help me so I get this right...do I leave the tip for Mousekeeping every morning before leaving the room for that mousekeeper, or the next day?  If I forget and leave an envelope with the room #/date, will the correct mousekeeper get it?  Also, what is proper to tip daily?  As for turndown, do those envelopes get left before, or after.  Help please!!! :o

When you arrive in your room after checking in, the Mousekeeper has already been there that day, so you don't need to leave anything for her then. In the morning, leave your Mousekeeping tip marked with a note or use one of those nifty "For Mousekeeping" envelopes with the money inside it for that day's Mousekeeper. Of course, if she arrives before you've left that morning and you don't mind her coming in while you're there, simply give it to her then.

For turn-down service, leave a tip marked for them to take for that service in a prominent place. Do that starting on your day of arrival. In the following days, if you come back to your room at mid-day this is a perfect time to leave it if you're heading back out. If you don't plan to be back at your room because you have a full day and evening in "the world" planned, leave both the Mousekeeping tip and the turn-down service tip when you leave the room that morning.

We've made envelopes for each day and haven't ever forgotten to put them out. If you keep them in a place where you'll remember, you hopefully won't forget either.

In concierge the turndown is a different person. We would leave $3 each day in an envelope on the pillow (internationally recognized as a location for a housekeeping tip) because if you leave it on a table or something they may not touch it. Then when we returned in the afternoon we put out a dollar or two for turndown. It is not necessary for either tip and I do not believe it will change the treatment you get from your housekeeper. Some days when we did not return in time we did not have anything out for the turndown service. At the end of the stay we would leave a larger tip if things were above average during our stay.

Aloha

Steve
